Going back to work following miscarriage

I had a miscarriage last week and am currently feeling exhausted and weepy. It's not my first miscarriage, and I know these feelings are normal.

I've been signed off work for a couple of weeks, and the doctor put 'gynaecological problems' on the cert, which I know they often do.

But I keep getting asked what I am being signed off for, for admin purposes, and also sympathetic curiosity. It's upsetting me because I don't want anyone at work to know (for many reasons) but obviously I have to come up with some reason (other than 'gynaecological problems') why I've been off work for a few weeks - if nothing else just something to say to well- meaning and concerned colleagues. But also because I don't want any of the official records to record it.

Can anyone please give me some plausible suggestions? Sorry - I'm stuck on this, possibly because I'm still not thinking like a logical and reasonable person!

Could you be as broad as women issues. If people ask you could say really bad period pains that you needed to get strong painkillers to manage. Most people don't ask a lot of questions when you say women issues. Sorry if this isn't much help.

Thanks caza, maybe I'll try something like that.

I was trying to think of something totally innocuous to brush them off with. I feel like saying 'mind your own business', but I am hormonal and grumpy and they are (mostly!) just being kind. I want to be prepared rather than mumble something inarticulate, or get upset or something.

If you wanted to brush them off, you could come up with some type of infection, chest or urine. This could have meant going to get antibiotics. You will find some people will ask and some people won't. If you just say a bad infection, most people will just leave it at that.

I told people to mind their own business. Why people choose to question others about something that could clearly be a very personal issue is just beyond me. In fact, you could just say exactly that - 'It's personal'.

Sorry you're going through this and hope you feel better soon. Flowers
