3 miscarriages, one DS. Any help available on the NHS?

I had my third miscarriage last week. I had two before my son was born, at 11 weeks and 7 weeks, and this is my third at 12 weeks. We've taken it really hard but we've decided to try again, maybe one last time.

I've got an appointment with the GP next week to find out if there are any tests they can do and if we get pregnant again, what support might be available. I have a feeling that having my son in between miscarriages may mean there won't be any help available so I wanted to see if anyone had any information or advice before my appointment. Thanks in advance!

So sorry about your recent loss and the previous ones too, backtotheplanet Thanks

AFAIK, services for recurring miscarriages vary but it is well worthwhile speaking to your GP about it - many hospitals do offer a 'Recurring Miscarriage Clinic'.
You do have to keep an open mind about whether a distinct cause will get found though - so often nothing specific will be turned up. I think we just don't know enough about what goes wrong in early losses Sad.

FWIW, I had 3 MMCs before I had DS1, then had DS2 v quickly, another loss, 2 further DSs.
I was fully investigated which revealed a genetic problem which however had nothing to do with my losses.
I was lucky enough to have access to an excellent RMC which I had open access to the second I had POAS and had a BFP - there is some evidence that 'supportive care' i.e. access to help and advice and frequent scanning improves outcomes.

I hope you recover well and quickly.
Do speak to your GP about a referral.
My take on keeping trying was that if I did not try to fall pregnant then I would deprive myself of the chance to have another baby, so I just bit the bullet and kept going.

V best of luck.

I'm sorry for your loss planet
The official NICE guideline is you have to have three consecutive MC to be referred for investigation, but a sympathetic GP might bend the rules. I had my first MC in between my sons, then a further two and was told I didn't qualify. I paid to see a consultant privately who recommended a list of tests, and the Gp was happy to do them on her recommendation. I then had another MC, was referred on the nhs and told there was nothing more they could do. They only find a cause in 50% of cases. My 4th loss was shown to be genetically normal so I went private for immune testing and finally found the cause and got the right treatment. The recurrent miscarriage support threads on here are a fantastic source of information and support, it can feel v lonely if nobody you know has had recurrent losses.

Thanks for your replies ladies. Yes, I thought that it would have to be 3 consecutive miscarriages. I will just have to see what the Dr says next week. If I do fall pregnant again, just having the support of a Dr or something would be helpful. The first 12 weeks are very lonely and worrying when you've been through several miscarriages already.

Come join the RMC thread, plenty of hand holding there for subsequent pregnancies, and success stories to give you some hope.
