Advice needed: cramping WORSE days after passing sac...? (TMI warning)

Hi all

I miscarried at 9 weeks and passed the sac on Wednesday. I had a scan the next day which confirmed the sac had gone, but a small amount of tissue remained. Since then I have been bleeding steadily; it hasn't eased. My cramping is getting worse to the point where tonight it's almost unbearable and I've taken two doses of prescription codeine painkillers. The pain is VERY low down, almost below my womb Confused

Has anyone experienced this? What should I do? Is this normal?

Thank you in advance Thanks

Hi pass, I'm so sorry for your loss, and it must be scary having pain these few days later.
As you mentioned, as there is til issue remaining, this low down pain you describe may be this moving down out of your womb and trying to pass out of your cervix. As your cervix will be closing again after passing the sac, this may be causing the pain as it may be putting pressure on your cervix.
If the pain gets wirse or the bleeding increases (soaking through a pad in one hour), call NHS 24 for advice. Do you have someone with you?

Hi Gin

I had my ERPC 4 weeks ago and woke to no pain and was fine for a couple of days then on the Tuesday / wednesday (op was Saturday) I was in agony - with very similar pains to you. Then all of a sudden I started bleeding heavily - passed a couple of clots and then the pain went. It may be your womb just trying to get rid of last of it.

If on agony don't be afraid to go to docs or call 111 and they can advise.

Make sure you are taking ibuprofen (if you can) as well as the codeine painkillers. Take the ibuprofen , then 2 hours later the prescription and vice versa.

You can take together but spacing it out by 2 hours means continuous pain relief. Hugs xx

It does sound like pressure on your cervix. I know baths are not generally a great idea if you're bleeding heavily. Could you maybe have a hot (don't faint) shower and sit on a hot water bottle. Anything to relax the hard working muscles?

Hugs gin How are you feeling today?

Ladies thank you so much for your replies. It eventually eased overnight and (tmi) I passed another bit of tissue in the morning so I think that was the culprit.

I didn't know about the bath thing when you're bleeding heavily. Thanks Thanks

With my first miscarriage I experienced no cramping until after my first period post MC. I was still testing faibt positive and then I passed some tissue and the cramping eased and I started testing negative soon after. It sounds to me as though your uterus is contracting to expel the last bit of tissue remaining.

So sorry about your miscarriage xxx
