pregnancy after miscarriage, how soon can you try?

Hello all
I'm new to mumsnet. I just had a mc last week Friday and slowly recovering. Feeling a little lost by hopeful we'll be pregnant again soon. Wanted to hear from other mums who had experienced a miscarriage and how soon after they tried again and successfully carried to full term. Just really want to hear some good stories right now to give me hope. First experience of mc after my first child with no problems so came ad quite a shock. Thanks

Hello there, I am currently up trying to wee, and my baby is sat under my bladder stopping me!! I am 12 weeks pregnant at the mo, but had an mmc in middle of July. I had one proper period and then fell pregnant again, and hopefully so far this time all good! So, it can happen very soon, but equally don't put pressure on yourself. I am so sorry got your loss, I remember the uncontrollable tears and heartache, but that will fade and you will feel better. Confide in your dh, and treat yourself a bit carefully. Good luck. Xx

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had a missed miscarriage & ERPC in April 2013, we waited until I had a period (6weeks) to try again then had DS2 at the beginning of May 2014 so there is definitely hope! I hope it goes well for you and that you're getting the time and space to rest and mourn x

Thank you very much, hearing the stories is helping a lot as I find its not making me feel so alone. I had no idea how common miscarriage was until I started looking into it.

Sending hugs, I had a mmc in dec 2010, with complications with infection due to retained tissue, I was determined to try straight away and fell pregnant in feb 2011 and my little man will be 3 in a weeks time, it is such a horrible time and my thoughts are with you xxx

I would like to start straight away, I know the hospital said are mu next A but I understand this is to make dating easier?

There are 18 mths between my DDs and I had an mc in between. Not sure about the maths, but we didn't wait long before trying again because I was knocking on a bit by then

I had a MC after an uneventful pregnancy with DS 1; it came as a huge shock and I was devastated, so I am really sorry for your loss. It's so tough. We left it a month then continued trying, and I fell pregnant again 3 months after the MC. DS2 is 3 weeks old now and bfing as I type (one handedly!). He was actually born just over a year after the MC. I understand how you just want to skip through and almost fast-track back to pregnancy, and I found it made me more anxious in this pregnancy, so be kind to yourself and use whatever support you have to help you through.

Well I'm 40, we had been trying for 31/2 years before we finally got pregnant for the second time, so I hope we can get pregnant quickly this time around seeing as apparently I should be more fertile after a mc.

Congratulations to you as well!..I do really want to skip.this bit as we waited so long to get pregnant. I'm sure I will.be.a bag of nerves next time around but at least I'll feel one step closer to having another baby.

My GP did tell me to wait several months, but my GP mother told me there was no medical reason to wait, only psychological, and advised us to get on with it! I was late 30s.
20 years later I have the odd moment when I think about "the child that never was", but I do have two lovely kids.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember how devastating it is.
I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks and then had an ERPC. Already had an 18 month old dd. The surgeon / gynecologist advised to wait for after one period, and we started trying then. Another period later I was pregnant.
My 5 year old dd and nearly 3 yr old ds are charging around the garden!
Take care of yourself though. I found talking to friends helped - nearly everyone I spoke to had had a mc. There are plenty of hands to hold and hugs to be given.

Sending hugs to you I've been there too and know how hard it is not to try again immediately! I waited until my periods settled back into a regular pattern and got pg first time! I now have a crazy 3yr old dd! I waited a couple of months just to let my body adjust and settle back to normal mentally and physically really.

Just a quick question, is it normal to have a positive pregnancy test 10 dates after miscarriage (I was told the fetus died at 8 weeks - 3 weeks after I started bleeding)? We had a d & c and also a scan on the day and was told all the "product" had been removed therefore no need to return for a scan? Is the test just registering my hormones from my last pregnancy?

Hi there, sorry for your loss. It is very hard.
I had a MMC and ERPC (and then infection) over Xmas/jan 2012 and conceived again after 1 period. My daughter will be 1 next month.
I do remember pregnancy hormones taking a while to fall, but keep an eye on it and go back to your GP if you are still getting positives a few weeks in as it can be a sign of retained tissue.
