Measurements show baby died within last few days. So puts me just over 8 weeks.

I had a MMC before but at 17 weeks so had to be induced.

Can anyone help as to what method can be used as I don't want to go through that again even though baby is tiny this time.

If I have surgical do I have to have a GA? Thanks for any help. I hope I haven't upset anyone reading this.

I'm so sorry.

All I can say is if I were you I'd want the surgical route as well. I just wouldn't be able to face medical management (which is, I think, where you're given meds to induce a miscarriage).

Have you been told who you need to contact? I'm sure you'll be advised of your options. Just make sure you're clear about what YOU want.

Thanks diving....

Still in shock I think.... I hold onto hormones and am still so sick.

The private scan centre is faxing report to my dr but Friday afternoon not expecting much.

Hate googling this kind of thing hence my posting.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I recently had a miscarriage and had it medically managed as a GA is a fear of mine. Hopefully you will get someone to talk through the options with you.

The midwife after my scan I feel didn't explain things thoroughly so I thought it would be a very easy process which unfortunately mine wasn't. The nurse I had in the hospital says that when a miscarriage is medically managed it varies hugely in terms of pain and what people should expect.

I recently had a friend have the surgical option which went fine however she did find coming round from the GA difficult and was in some discomfort afterwards.

My advice would be to ask plenty of questions so you feel fully informed. If you have any questions do feel free to ask. Again I'm so sorry I know how heartbroken you must be feeling. Flowers

scoop I'm very sorry - I remember when you had your late loss Sad
You should be given a choice of natural, medical or surgical management. Since it's a MMC you might have to wait a while for a natural MC to start. Medical MC involves taking an oral tablet then returning for insertion of pessaries the day after (you can do this yourself but they normally make you stay for at least an hour afterwards, and in some hospitals they want you to stay in until you pass the sac) and often 2 doses are needed 24 hours apart.
Surgical management is normally under general anaesthetic but some centres are now offering vacuum aspiration under local anaesthetic.
I know you don't want to google, but the Miscarriage Association site might be a good place to look for reliable information on all options.

Hi Claire so sorry for your loss

....I am also fearful of a GA ....silly really because I've had a few before.

Thanks for advice ....I've used my private healthcare and managed to get an appointment for tmrw morning and have been told nil by mouth from tonight. Nurse said I can speak to consultant about options tmrw regarding Ga....although I think she will want me to have one.

Scoop I am so so sorry to hear what's happened. I had a miscarriage last year, my hospital gave me the option of surgical management under GA or LA. I opted for GA because I could have it done within two days whereas I would have had to wait for a week for LA. The GA was ok, I went in in the morning about 8.00am, I went down for the procedure at about 9.30 am and I think I was home about 3pm.

Did you have a private scan? My miscarriage was picked up at a private one and I was referred to my local hospital within two days who then talked me through all my options. If you want to talk about any of it or ask any questions just shout. Thanks

Sorry, just seen it was a private scan, I'm glad you've got an appointment for the morning.

For me it was worse mentally being at home beforehand and worrying about it. Plus the bleeding I had at home wasn't nice. Being in hospital was better for me, in and out in a day and everything physical was dealt with quickly. I did continue to bleed a little afterwards but it was like a period, and wasn't uncomfortable. The GA didn't seem to have much effect on me either other than making me very tired for a few days although I know everyone reacts differently.
