Can anyone share how long it might take to miscarry without surgery?

Sorry for the blunt question. The midwife seemed quite cagey, I suppose because it's different for everyone?
I am currently miscarrying for the third time in 4 pregnancies. The first two times were MMC and I had surgery so I haven't had experience of what happens when your body does it naturally.
I've been bleeding for 12 days now. A scan on day 7 showed that the little egg sac was still there and I haven't seen it come out yet. I have another scan booked in 8 days time which seems forever away. I was at 9 weeks when I started bleeding, but measured 5.

Would anyone mind sharing how long it went on for them?

Thank you for replying. No pain to speak of so far. Just seems to be going on forever with the bleeding! Am also wondering if I've gone anaemic as am exhausted.

So sorry both of you are going through this too Flowers

I started to bleed and heavily cramp Sunday, ed heavily Sunday and Monday, passed sac on tues and I'm now bleeding lightly and slight cramping. Been told it's different for everyone but I'm hoping the worst is over.

I've read anything from a few days bleeding to light bleeding for a few weeks.

They then check your bloods to see if hcg is decreasing until it's normal again.

Hugs

Ps it's normal to be exhausted, your body has gone through an awf experience. Get lots of rest and fluids

IME I have passed the sac, accompanied by heavy bleeding, in the first 2-3 days, then lighter bleeding for about a week (4MC at 8-10 weeks) but it is different for everyone so hard to generalise. Spatone is v good at replenishing iron stores and feeling a bit more human afterwards.
LLR you would be v welcome on the RMC support thread if you would like to join us. You don't say if your MC were consecutive but even if not I'd consider pushing for testing at this point. If you can manage to catch the sac (grim I know, sorry) getting it tested is very useful.

Thank you bakingtins. (On phone so can't do bold, sorry.)

I had MMC, MMC, DS, now MC so they won't test yet. I'm 32 and apparently that is too young for the NHS to worry. My health insurance won't cover it, but I'm wondering about paying to go private for initial tests. I change my mind on a daily basis and have no idea how much it would cost...

Still bleeding and still no sac. Is it possible I could have missed it? I have spoken to a pharmacist and am taking iron tablets which seem to be helping a bit.

Yes, you could easily miss a 5 week sac.

The testing can get very expensive. I was in a similar position as I had one MC between my 2 boys in 2009, then 2 trying for Dc3 in 2012-13. I went private at that point and spent about £600, and that was with my GP running a lot of the tests on consultants say-so (all normal) Then had 4th MC, genetic testing on NHS (also normal) and paid for NK testing £360. That came up with a diagnosis of high NK cells and I had my daughter in May this year (meds and additional scans all on NHS) If I'd paid for everything at private rates it would have been thousands of pounds. It is very frustrating if you are convinced something is wrong but nobody will help, and it's pretty hard to accept you are 'unlucky' three times over. A sympathetic GP will often run some basic tests for you - most of the initial stuff is just blood tests, and having had a successful pregnancy rules out things like structural issues or incompetent cervix. Worth asking - nothing ventured...
Come join the RMC thread whatever you decide, it helps to have some company and RMC can feel v lonely at times.

Sorry you're going through this Flowers

My sac looked like a clot, it wasn't large and could easily have been missed. It's possible you passed it already.

Sending you hugs x
