Periods after ectopic tube removal

Hi all,
Had my ectopic and left tube removed on dec 5th, had post op bleed around 5 days later. It lasted around 2 weeks. I then got what I thought was my first period on jan 3rd but I'm still bleeding??? It's not heavy but enough to warrant a liner and sometimes a full blown pad...
Got my post op check up next week and will of course bring it up bit just wondered if anyone else has had experience of this?
Thanks all

Dear Ruthho, sorry to hear that you had an ectopic, I hope you are healing well and not too sore. Did you have a laparotomy? I had my left tube removed in January 2013. Like you, I had a little bit of spotting on and off for a couple of weeks after the operation. I think this was just my body getting rid of any last bits and pieces but the drain that I had in for 5 days in hospital did it's job well. I got my period exactly 30 days after the operation which was fine, no worse than before. Did you have a drain in hospital? Sometimes our bodies take a little while to get back to normal and the hormone levels, therefore resulting in a little discharge.

I hope you are keeping well

Sorry to hear you've both been thru ectopic too. I had the surgery to remove right tube (and EP) on Christmas Eve Hmm

Can I ask what a drain is?

Also, my hospital didn't arrange a follow up appointment... Said it was a minor op and only need to get in touch when pregnant again for early scan. Is a follow up appt usual?

Dear Hessy,
sorry to hear about you too, such a painful time, especially over Christmas.
Because of the urgency of my situation I had to be cut open (like a C-section) to get the tube removed asap and be given 3L of blood. They estimated that I had just over 3L blood in my abdomen, about 55% total blood volume. Critical situation, glad I didn't realise it at the time! I had to have a catheter because I couldn't get out of bed for 3 days and a drain was put in whilst I was still under. The drain was to drain any excess blood from the area and for the doctors to monitor blood loss.

I had a follow up to check on the scar, mainly to check no signs of infection and to check the wobbliness of my tummy. Did you have the laparoscopy - key hole surgery through your tummy button? I would have thought that you could have a follow up just to get GP to feel your tummy and make sure that all feels normal. Also if you were signed off work by the hospital, the GP may like to see how you are coping and make sure that you are ok to go back to work.

Gosh bushmills that sounds scary. Hope all is well now? Have you managed to conceive since (if you don't mind me asking)?

Yes I had a laparoscopy. I didn't think it at the time but it sounds I got off easy.

I'm back at work but perhaps should book GP appt anyway.

Thanks again. And sorry to hijack thread Smile

I would book one anyway, I quite liked to keep in touch with GP and to hear that all was ok was reassuring. I am a bit of a worrier so needed the reasurrance, again and again.

When I had recovered emotionally and physically (about 6 months) we did conceive very quickly. Sadly it ended in a missed miscarriage at 10 1/2 weeks in November. I'm ok, was devasted at the time and still a bit up and down but doing ok. I'm not sure if we will try again. Dr has recommended that I give my body a break for at least 6 months, I don't think I could cope if anything went wrong again so soon. We have a 3 1/2 year old and my DH is happy for us to be a three.

I wish you a fruitful 2014 ........

Morning ladies, sorry to hear both of your stories.....
I too had a laparoscopy and had 2l of blood in my abdominal cavity. I was told when I left hospital (after 48hrs) that I would receive a follow up appointment approximately 6 weeks later (it will be nearer 8)
I have had a horrendous 72hr labour and also a c section and I have to say I would rather go through either of those as opposed to this.....sooo painful!!!
I'm still bleeding.....it's been nearly 8 weeks now...... Myself and my partner have always been very active in the bedroom and it's obviously having a major effect.....
I have 2 boys already 6yr & 20 months) and really wanted another baby. I've never been so scared in my life, I just kept telling my partner that I loved him and to tell the boys the same..... I'm now unsure as to whether to try again as I don't ever want to be in that position again?? I think deep down I do want to keep trying but am I being reckless and unfair and not putting my other children first???
When Is is bleeding going to stop???!!!! Aaarrrgghhhh!!!!
X
