3 chemical losses in 3 months

Well exactly the title really.

I have a ds who is 2 years 5 months, I fell with him on the 3rd month, no problems. I had little bleeds with him but only brown spotting for a few hours or so.

I've tested positive the last 3 months and within a week I start to bleed and the tests lighten off.

I've started bleeding again this morning, bang on time to November and I am utterly utterly devastated.

I've got a drs appointment this afternoon, and I had an early scan booked for Friday due to the last couple of months, but am not sure if I should go.

Has anyone else been through this or similar?
Can you tell me what happens now re tests etc?

Thanks

Oh Choccy, so sorry it's happened again. It might be worth taking a break from ttc for a couple of cycles whilst pursuing tests, to give your body a rest and recover from the stress.
Go for the scan. They might see something like polyps or cysts that may help explain your losses.
Docs always say best not to test until AF is actually late, to avoid the upset of chemical pregnancies, which we would otherwise not know about...but they tend to forget that some women get early symptoms as well.

x

Oh choccy, I remember you from the August antenatal thread, I'm so so sorry this has happened to you again. You must be devastated.

I'm in a similar position to you, have one DS who is 2 years 4 months and I'm just in the middle of having my third miscarriage (waiting for a second scan to confirm the baby has stopped growing at 5 weeks, I should be 9 now). My second miscarriage was a chemical one.

I'm being referred to the clinic, I think they test you and your other half for chromosomal issues and then test you for lots of things, diabetes, thyroid, clotting etc. They also do ultrasounds to check the womb I think. Someone more knowledgeable than me will be along soon but I didn't want to leave your post unanswered.

It's so rubbish, I just send lots of Thanks and hope you find some answers soon x

Thank you both, I am just absolutely devastated. Thing is I can feel all the stretching etc as if I am pg still, but my tests are fading off.
It's bright red blood, not masses, more like a light flow.
I'm due to see the dr shortly to see what they're going to do.

So, I've just been to the dr, and she was absolutely lovely.

Before I even got a word out I broke down into tears and she held my hand.
I explained that I'd had 3 early mcs in 3 months and she has sent me for blood tests tomorrow morning, results hopefully back by tomorrow afternoon/early Friday.

Also said to attend scan Friday even if I'm still bleeding.

My tests are now negative, so I know the 'baby' has gone.
The bloods are (on the form)
haematology:Fbc and esr.

clotting screen.
biochemistry: u&e, lft, gamma gt, bone profile, glucose, hba,c.
Thyroid.
Cholesterol.
Immunology:crp.

Other:lupus, Ana, antiphosphohpid.
If anyone knows what they are, feel free to shed light.
She said they'll do a progesterone test at 21 days. They're going to let the bloods come back first and see if there's any problem, if not I'll be referred to a specialist.

I asked her about my uterine lining and she said that would be a talk to the specialist thing, also asked about me taking baby aspirin and she said to keep taking it.
Also showed her that website Rockin and what the lady had been prescribed to get her babies, and she said again to talk to the specialist.

I'm so glad I have ds here to cuddle up to

Hi choccy, so sorry to see this, I think we got our BFPs at similar time this month, I too have miscarried, nearly straight away (in fact I bled before I got a positive test but I think something very strange is going on with me, ah well). This is my 2nd mc now so you are definitely not alone. Great that you have a supportive doctor, I haven't been able to see anyone except a nurse and was just told over the phone by someone who couldn't answer any of my questions that hcg was dropping.

It's so hard to know what to do next, I really feel for you, it's a horrendous thing to happen. I might take a month off and then try again, do you think you will? I've also started taking angus castus because I read it helps balance hormones and I believe that hormones are still out from previous mc, no idea if it wil help though x

choccy I'm so sorry you've had such a horrid few months. It's great that your GP is so supportive, but I think she is jumping the gun with the blood tests as the pregnancy hormones and the aspirin will interfere with some of the results.
I saw a specialist hot on the heels of my 3rd miscarriage and had to wait minimum of one cycle before the bloods were done.
Basically they are running haematology (red and white cell levels) and biochemistry (chemicals in the blood reflecting your organ function, cholesterol) then there are a group of tests for 'sticky' blood which can affect implantation (APS and clotting) thyroid function, diabetes, then a group of autoimmune conditions (lupus, antinuclear antibody, and I assume crp though not heard of that one).
The clotting tests will all be affected by you taking aspirin.
You need day 2 (of a normal cycle, not post MC) LH and FSH, a mid cycle scan for PCOS, uterine abnormalities like fibroids or endometriosis and to assess your lining, and day 21 progesterone (again, in a normal cycle).
It would also be standard to do karyotyping of both partners to test for genetic abnormalities you might be passing on.
Did she get advice from a specialist about it or just type it into the NHS GP idiot's guide on the computer? Certainly my GP was clueless, very helpful and happy to run the tests on the specialist's advice but it's outside their expertise in many cases.
The best explanation of causes and testing for RMC is Mary Regan's book "Miscarriage - what every woman needs to know"

In your shoes I'd take a couple of months off TTC to look after yourself, recover physically and emotionally, let your hormones and your womb lining sort themselves out, ask for referral to a consultant and get the tests done in a month or so when everything has settled. In 3 months hopefully you'll be in a better place with some answers (though bear in mind a cause is only found in about 50% of cases) and a plan to move forward.
There is a lot of support and knowledge available on the RMC thread, you would be made v welcome.

Choccy, I just wanted to say I'm so so sorry to hear this - you fell pregnant around the same times as me. I mc'ed very late October and have just found out I'm pregnant again, so anxious it's untrue but hoping it will be okay this time. I have no experience of testing after consecutive mcs and the other ladies have given good info but just wanted to send my love.

Choccywoccydodah · 15/01/2014 19:23

Thank you lotty and Lacey.

Bakingtins, thank you too, wow that's so informative!! Are you in the medical industry? You seem to know your stuff??

I'm not sure what she typed into the computer tbh but she did type something and referred to it with my blood sheet so I wonder if it was what you are saying.

I don't know what to do now :(

I'm a vet Grin but it's mostly from going through the testing process myself over the last year and hanging out on the RMC thread.

Why not see if you can speak to her again tomorrow, or ask for a telephone consult. If you go ahead with the bloods worst that can happen is that a specialist may repeat some of them later. My worry would be that if she's going to use them as a rule out some may be negative because of the aspirin and it shouldn't mean you don't get a referral.

Choccywoccydodah · 16/01/2014 10:53

Morning, I spoke to the dr and she said just to go, so I went first thing. Hopefully I'll get some answers soon.
