Possibly miscarrying, scan inconclusive - advice needed

I am 6+5 weeks pregnant and started bleeding yesterday. It started as brown and sludgy discharge and progressed to being red and mucussy. Overall volume very low and I've had some very mild cramping occasionally.

I went to my local EPU this morning and had a scan, they found the embryo to be attached correctly but thought the size was consistent with a 4-5 week pregnancy. The doctor said theres a possibility the pregnancy hasn't progressed beyond that point, my dates are incorrect (however I am 100% certain of my last period date) or that the embryo is just small. I am booked in again in 2.5 weeks for another scan which will hopefully be more conclusive.

I go on holiday on Wednesday for 2 weeks and am worried that this is the start of a miscarriage and the thought of dealing with that on a beach holiday is horrifying.

Does anyone have any advice or have you been in a similar situation?

If you have reasonably predictable cycles and know when you ovulated then if the pregnancy is 2 weeks outside your dates I'm afraid that is probably bad news. NHS policy is not to diagnose a MC on a single scan if the embryo is smaller than 7 weeks (the point at which there should definitely be a visible heartbeat) However, there is no need to make you wait so long between scans, a week would be standard and would allow you some time to make decisions about management, if necessary, before your holiday. I'd phone back and get the appointment moved to next week. Being in limbo is horrible, there is no need to prolong it.

Doh, sorry, misread your post, I thought you were going away in 2 weeks, not v soon for 2 weeks. I guess they are timing the second scan round your trip.
In that case I'm afraid you have to wait it out, they won't do anything based on a single scan. If the holiday can't be postponed, you need to go prepared in case you do miscarry whilst you are away, take maxi pads and painkillers.
Have a read of the thread "tips for coping" which I'll bump up for you.
Sorry you are in such a shitty situation.

I don't know what to advise but if you are going somewhere where access to good health care could be a serious problem you may need to consider this trip again. Lots of people have a bit of bleeding and cramps and carry a viable pregnancy, and lots of pregnancies are a little off their dates, but at 6+ weeks they should really have seen a heartbeat and a reasonable size fetal pole. I went through three scans that were constantly a little behind dates, we had a heart beat in one but not the next and I wish they had been more bluntly honest about the prognosis rather than just keep me guessing for weeks on end.

If you can manage the pain and the bleeding isn't excessive, you can just miscarry at home (that is what I chose to do), if that is what is happening.
