Progesterone to prevent MC?

Hi ladies,

Went to docs on Tuesday as still testing positive 12 days after natural MC - very keen to start trying again.

Usually doc is really nice - this time (2nd MC) she told me off for not having the "scrape" (nice terminology...) and asked me if I wanted a prescription for the pill. I have had so much trouble conceiving in the first place (trying for 7 years!!!) of which she should be fully aware!

Of course that's not what I want, we're going to try again straight away!!!

After reading through all the threads on here and finding out (so I thought!) that progesterone could stop future MC I asked her about that to which she said that would be the last thing I needed if I was trying to get preggers and stay preggers, complete opposite of what I thought! I am going to see another doctor next week - would anyone be kind enough to advise me on when progesterone suppositories should be taken? I MC'd at 10 weeks this time x

Also, still taking my pregnancy vits - is there any reason why I should swap back to TTC vits? Any help very gratefully rec'd!

Progesterone (like almost all treatments for RMC) is a bit controversial and the experts disagree with each other.
Mary Regan says low progesterone is a sign of a failing pregnancy, not the cause of it, and therefore supplementing progesterone is pointless.
Siobhan Quenby thinks that low progesterone in the second half of your cycle can affect development of uterine lining and prevent implantation, and prescribes Cyclogest pessaries 400mg twice daily from CD21. You test on day 28, continue until 12 weeks if you get a BFP, stop if it's BFN.
I think they are all agreed that it doesn't do any harm, except that it may "prop up" a failing pregnancy and prevent a natural miscarriage occurring - not too much of a problem if you are being scanned regularly.
I had my 4th MC whilst on progesterone, but was not being treated for the immune issues which have subsequently been diagnosed. I'm now 13 weeks having been treated with progesterone, steroids and clexane throughout first trimester.
I don't think progesterone is a magic bullet, or a substitute for getting a proper diagnosis of the cause of the miscarriages where that is possible, but it can be useful in some cases.

I think there is v little difference between the pregnancy and TTC vits, and in truth all you really need is folic acid and possible vit D, so I'd take whatever you have a stash of.
