Trying to conceive after a miscarriage almost 1 year ago

It's been a long time since I visited this site!
Well, last October I had a 'missed miscarriage' which was discovered at my 12 week scan. I was (obviously) devastated and since about January/February we have been trying to conceive again.
My other two children were conceived quite easily, after a few months for the first and on the first month for the second (and the miscarriage was the first month of trying too). This time though nothing seems to be happening. I hate every month of hoping that this is the month and then my period arriving.
Does anyone know if experiencing a miscarriage. albeit quite a while ago now, can slow down your conception rates for the next time? I find it weird that things aren't happening this time around. Maybe it's age too, I am 36?
Also, I am sure there are a million good tips here but am frantically busy and can't go through all the different topics, does anyone have any tips for trying to conceive? I know roughly when I'm ovulating so we are more active around this time but should I be doing/taking anything else.
Thanks to anyone for reading this and anyone who replies.

After been given the all clear from the colposcopy clinic(12 months in total)Dh bought an ovulation kit back from the chemist, did the test, 48 hours of nothing but sex, it worked for us. I bought books on conception but found that there were various tips, checking temp, ovulating, what foods to avoid when trying to concieve etc etc
My strongest tip would be to try and relax, dont think about age. I was 36 when it happened, it will happen for you, I am sure. Good luck! xx

hello - I had a missed miscarriage last July, and it took me until this Feb to concieve again - and I'm now 40, so was fairly worried.

I don't know exactly what helped, as I did a few things, so one or more of these worked for us...

Reflexology - definitely worth it to destress, as sometimes I think it is the worrying that stops it all from working
Aspirin - 75mg a day - the consultant at the hospital wasn't at all surprised that this had made a difference.
Temp charts - I used the 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' book too.

Started all the above in Jan, and was pregnant by mid Feb. Good luck, and i hope it works out for you

When in your cycle do you take the aspirin?

twocatsonthebed · 28/06/2006 22:24

one a day all the way through (ask in Boots for the dispersible ones)

Orangegirafe, I admire your dedication!! I think I should buy an ovulation kit but how do you manage 'multiple times' without partner thinking he is a 'baby machine' or do you just work on it as the way to get pregnant? I'm worried it will turn sex into a mechanical process but probably my partner wouldn't question it anyway!!!
Twocatsonthebed, do you mention to reflexologist that you are trying to conceive? Also, re the aspirin, so you just take 75mg per day and then stop as soon as you discover you're pregnant and that's OK??
Thanks again both of you. x

yes, I did mention to the reflexologist that I was trying to conceive, but then stopped that as soon as I conceived (it can cause miscariage in the first trimester).

And I'm still taking the aspirin at 22 weeks - the consultant said to keep going until 36 weeks. It's a very small dose, doesn't do any harm.

Thanks.

Janus, sorry about your m/c. There are quite a few good threads around on ttc, and one I found useful for older mums, which mentions cough medicine and grapefruit juice. I'll see if I can find it.

I started a thread today saying how fed up I am every month, waiting and then starting my period, so I know what you mean about that.

pppp · 28/06/2006 23:11

I'm also thinking of having reflexology.

Hi Janus,
I know you posted back in June about ttc after a miscarriage. So I hope that the last 6 weeks have been good to you.
I've just joined this board today, because I wanted to reply to your posting. I'm in the same situation as you. I miscarried last December, have been trying to conceive since but nothing is happening. I have a 3 year old who was conceived after 3 months of trying, and on my last pregnancy we weren't officially trying. So I wasn't expecting a long haul now and it is SO hard. Acupuncture is helping, but with each month that goes by, it gets harder to keep believing it can happen.

I'd love to hear how you're doing Janus, and to hear from anyone else with advice or words of encouragement, or both!

Thanks,

Rachel

cbb - Janus posts on the 'TTC after miscarriage' thread on the conception board. Why don't you come over there?

I m/c too in January and am exactly the same regarding doing it really easily the first 2 times and now everything having come to a halt.

My sister had the same happen to her for her second child. She managed to conceive the month after the due date so in her head she thought it was down to 'letting go' of the m/c. I don't know whether that is the case or whether her body just was sent all a-kilter and it took that long to readjust.

You say you are having acupuncture - I have started that too (I do look forward to going and chatting to my lady every week). In chinese acupuncture terms any pregnancy whether it goes to full term or whether it only lasts a couple of days is seen to have a major on the body.

twocatsonthebed.

I took low dose aspirin as soon as I knew I was pregnant and took 75mg everyday. Now I have a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks and I have stopped taking it!

Should I continue to take it after my ERPC I thpught you only took it when you have a positive pregnancy test... not when you are trying to concieve????
