Incomplete Miscarriage

Regular poster but nc.

Found out this week I've experienced an incomplete miscarriage. I should be 8 weeks pregnant, but the sac is measuring about 6 weeks. There is nothing visible inside it. I've been bleeding now for 12 days, and feel awful - tired, sick, crampy, teary. I was bleeding more heavily a couple of days ago for just a couple of days, but now it seems to have slowed again back to the spotting. I had this bleeding while I was in the hospital and they were scanning me, so I know I haven't passed what I need to.

An operation isn't an option, as in my particular case it's too risky, so I have to wait for things to happen naturally. If I'm still bleeding in two weeks I have to go back to the hospital for another scan.

I have two questions really - one, does anyone have any experience of this, and how long did it take for things to happen, and two, is there anything I can do to help speed up the process and move things along?

Thank you for those who have read, and can offer any advice, I know it's a difficult thing to have to revisit for those who have been it before.

Sorry for your loss. I had an ERPC 5 weeks ago (MMC at 12wks). After heavy bleeding a week after the ERPC a scan showed I had retained products. I was given misoprostal in an attempt to pass it. Have the hospital suggested you have that?
I passed more with the misoprostal but a later scan showed there was still stuff there. Dr seemed happy it wasn't placental tissue and felt that it was blood clots that i would pass it naturally as I continued to bleed or with my next period. I bled for almost 4 weeks. Hope this helps.

There's been no suggestion at all of giving me any medication, they're just basically leaving me to it, but definitely don't want to operate.
Thanks for your answer. I'm sorry for your loss, too and I hope you're starting to feel a bit better now.

Hi there, I am going through a medical miscarriage after the same thing, my baby died at six weeks but I had a scan last week after lots of pain and some spotting. I was given the pessaries on monday which made everything happen quite quickly ( I passed the sac on Tuesday ( the day after) . I have to wait 3 weeks and then take a pg test if positive I will then go back for rescan and possibly an op but I've negative they won't scan me as that shows its all gone?!
I don't know of any tips to speed it up except asking for the pessaries although it sounds as though your body is doing it naturally which is probably a lot better for you .
I just wanted to send my love and say you are not alone and we will all get through this hideous time . Take care , big huggles xxxx

If you are finding the open-ended nature of how long it will take difficult then I'd ask about medical management - more info on the Miscarriage Association site.

I had medical management for incomplete miscarriage at 8 weeks. As I was already bleeding they didn't give me the tablets which I think are to soften the cervix, I just had 2 lots of pessaries 24 hours apart. You can insert them yourself, then they kept me in for an hour to ensure I didn't have any ( I assume allergic) reaction and I was able to go home. I did the second pessary myself at home. I was given the all clear at a scan a couple of days later, and I bled like a period for about 10 days afterwards.

I'm sorry you are in the situation of having to find out this stuff Sad

Thanks for your replies.

Nobody mentioned anything about medicine/pessaries I could take to help the process along. Just told to come back in a fortnight and referred back to the GP if I need help with pain management.

I'll investigate that website, it looks helpful.
