So I was 7 weeks pregnant, had 2 weeks of very light bleeding. Had a scan, all fine at 6 weeks 4 days. Had bleeding with DD from 8 weeks to 34 weeks on & off so thought i was just prone. Then bang in 7 weeks the heavy bleeding kicked in on Friday night. Drs said on phone concern was it was eptopic but I'd been scanned which had confirmed it wasn't. So heavy bleeding for a few hours Friday night with passing of clots & cramps. Since then few cramps & not as much bleeding. Out of hours Dr on Friday night said speak to GP tomorrow. What will happen next? Will they take blood or scan to confirm it?? Will they check me out or will I even be seen? Will bleeding go on forever & cruelly remind me each day of what has happened? I secretly keep hoping that its just a heavy bleed and its all going to be ok but know that I am deluded!!!!

Oh Mrs RV I saw your other thread - was hoping the fact you hadn't appeared here meant it had all settled down Sad
Yes, you need to be seen. The GP is not likely to be able to do anything. A pregnancy test would probably still be positive even if you've had a complete miscarriage as it takes time for hormone levels to fall. Same goes for a blood HCG test - a low level would not be encouraging but you'd need to show falling levels 48hrs apart to be sure that the pregnancy was not progressing. Basically you need a scan, to see if pregnancy is still viable, or if you have had a miscarriage, to see if it is complete or if you may need some management (either medical or surgical). If you were scanned at EPU for your 6 week scan you may be able to just present yourself tomorrow morning (ours is a walk-in clinic, you need a GP referral first time you have problems in a pregnancy, then you can go back without another referral). It's worth phoning them, or the gynae department at the hospital, to find out what the arrangements are locally. Don't waste time trying to get a GP appointment and then have to wait again to go to EPU another day - cut out the middleman.
If you have miscarried you are likely to carry on bleeding for 1-2 weeks. You need to use pads, not tampons, to reduce the risk of infection. There is a very useful thread here about the practicalities of coping and the Miscarriage Association is a very good source of factual information.
I'm really sorry that you find yourself here, will continue to hope you get better news than you are expecting tomorrow.

:-(

Thanks. I'll phone EPU tomorrow morning. I managed to get through to them on the phone last week so hopefully they'll be able to see me. It's going to be awkward trying to get them to see me after I finish work at 3 though... But I really don't want to tell work!!!

Develop a mystery 24 hr tummy bug until you know what is happening?

It's really awkward, had time off last week for a scan & have had to mess them around loads recently as I have a 16 month little girl who has been ill on & off & if its not her being ill its her childminder.... It's been a nightmare! Plus I'm really busy & I'll just get stressed out if I get behind with my work. I know all of that stuff shouldn't matter but it'll just put my mind at rest if I know they'll agree to scan me after 3pm one day!

Well you can always ask EPU and see what they say. Your health is a priority though, work will not fall apart without you for a day. I've always taken v minimal time off and felt it better to be busy, but equally valid to take as much time off as you need to. As I only work part time it's been possible to schedule scans etc for non-work days. Hope they can fit you in after work tomorrow.

Hi Mrs RV..sorry to hear u r going through this . I totally understand your stress about work (i was in a new job when mine happened - doesn't give off the best signal to a new employer but sh*t happens so they can't get annoyed with u!). Your health is priority so go and have the scan asap so u know what u r dealing with. U don't have to tell them what's going on if u don't want to. Keep calm and try not to worry about work.
