Waiting for miscarriage - will it ever happen??

So I had it confirmed on Friday, at 8.5 weeks, that the embryo hasn't grown since 6 weeks, no hb. The doctor has given me Pulsatilla, 10 homeopathic globules every two hours. He says within 7-10 days I should miscarry.
He was reluctant to prescribe medicine to bring on m/c as I've had two cesarians (both babies overdue, never dropped, no dilation), although he said it could be a last resort.
Has anyone had any experience of waiting for a miscarriage when there's absolutely no spotting or cramping?
I did have a m/c before my two DS's were born, but I bled before I found out, and then was given an ERPC after a week or so as I hadn't dilated any.
I'm quite scared of pain and would def request an op in UK but am in Latin America and don't like hospitals here plus no one to look after children if DH has to take me and collect me.
TIA!

I'm really sorry you are going through this Sad I waited 4 weeks between finding out there was no hb (similar timing to your situation). at what should have been 11 weeks, the bleeding started.
It was sore, but not unbearable. Painkillers helped and I had hot water bottles and the like.
Ended up with a D&C because it didn't all come away. Would it be worth finding out about how a D&C would be handled in your local hospital- that way if you do end up going in, you at least know what to expect.
I hope it is as quick and pain-free as possible, and that youa re able to have some time to yourself.

thanks, twolittlebundles. That makes me feel better. I can imagine needing the D&C anyway in the end. Yes I do know what it's like here. It's not pleasant, they don't discreetly pre-med you in a separate room and then wheel you into theatre, it's all very ad-hoc. You sit shivering on the op table while waiting for the staff to turn up, greet each other, turn on the room lights and clean instruments in front of you! But what will be will be...

Hi Fruitilla, just wanted to check how you were getting on- I hope it has been as simple as possible.

Hi twolittlebundles, I've been taking the pulsatilla since Saturday and nothing yet! My doc is away on a homeopathy course this week so I will continue waiting till next Monday and then ask him about taking the proper pills, but might opt for the ERPC since I will likely need it anyway. I still have faint nausea most of the day so I think my hormone levels haven't dropped enough...

It's rubbish waiting isn't it? I had the same thing with continued nausea- seems like a double blow. Hope you are getting some rest in the meantime and time to process.

Hi frutilla, sorry for what you're going through. My situation is similar in that I had scans at 7 and 8 weeks showing no progression since 4 weeks yet no signs of mc. The day before my second scan I had a tiny bit of bleeding so they advised to let it happen on its own.

For me it took a week from the start of bleeding for anything to really happen (had a heavy bleed last night and think I passed tissue - sorry if tmi) and I guess another 4 weeks before that for my body to twig something was wrong.

I never knew mc could be like this and the waiting has been really difficult so I really feel for you.

Hi frutilla so sorry to hear you're going through this.
I've had 4 natural miscarriages.
The first at 11 weeks started with spotting a little blood and had progressed to heavy bleeding within 5 days, I was scanned then and though the baby had gone the sac was still there. I opted to see if I would miscarry naturally and went on to pass the bulk of the pregnancy tissue 2 days later, some bleeding then continued for a few weeks though much lighter. The pains, though manageable, felt more like early labour pains than the "period pains" the doctor had euphemistically described!
We waited a cycle and then conceived again, miscarrying at 6 weeks which was like a heavy painful period.
I conceived again a few weeks later but despite seeing a heartbeat on early scans found out at 10 weeks the baby had died the previous week. I opted to miscarry naturally again but nothing started till 12 weeks. I had a few crampy pains for a few days leading up to it but no spotting, if I hadn't been scanned I would have had no idea anything was going wrong with the pregnancy. When the miscarriage actually started this time it was with a sudden, big gush of heavy bleeding with clots(sorry if tmi). I was scanned that day and told baby/sac were still there, heavy bleeding continued but it was another two days before I passed them. Once again bleeding petered off then but didnt stop for probably 10-14 days.
My last miscarriage, though very early at 5.5 weeks, was more painful than the one at 6 weeks, miscarriages seem to vary enormously, even for the same person!
The waiting is so difficult, I hope things resolve for you soon.
There is a very good thread on here somewhere for the practicalites of dealing with a miscarriage,it's worth reading.
x
