prescribed fluconazole for thrush post mc - how long before ttc?

Hi, I could do with some advice. I had a miscarriage which started 3 weeks ago (still some bleeding now) and am on antibiotics for infection. I had thrush during the pregancy (mc at 9 and a half weeks) so now have fluconazole(150mg) in my hand but am reluctant to take it due to all the horror stories associated with larger doses and the effect on foetus. Have been advised not to ttc again til after next AF anyhow post mc - but if i take the tablet is this long enough to get the awful fungicide out of my system or should we wait longer before ttc again? Any advice appreciated! Thanks.

Groucho - I think this is something to ask either the gynae dept where you were treated or a pharmacist. I'd also ask whether to wait until after the antibiotics finish as being on them tends to encourage thrush to flourish (wondering if you treated it now then did another week on abs whether it might flare up again?). Hope you find someone who can answer your question and that you are cleared for TTC again v soon.

Thanks, the gp said to take them and make sure we wait til after mc finishes and then after next period to ttc. She gave me 2 tablets - one to take mid antibiotics and one to take after - i only want to take one after all i've read about higher doses (scary head deformities etc) so like u said Bakingtins - I think maybe it's best to wait til end of antibiotics....urgh!! Thanks for your help :-)

The other thing to try is phone the pharmaceutical company and ask to speak to their technical advice line. They may not hand out info to the public but worth asking. They are more likely to have good data on how long it stays in your system than the GP does.

Thanks - I'll give that a try :-)

The 150mg dose is pretty low and I would take it without worrying. It's more of a worry in much larger long term doses. If you're still not sure and the thrush is driving you crazy then pop to boots as they stock the gel, think its by multi-gyn that treats the infection, and then there's also canesten pessaries and cream. Hope that helps x

Just to explain - i borrowed a login to ask the question but have now got my own - that's why i'm saying thanks rather than groucho! Sorry for any confusion!!
