First period after MC - please reassure me

I had a MC on May 4th (baby passed away at 9 weeks, 4 weeks before, I decided to wait it out to MC naturally) where I haemorrhaged and had a really nasty scare, seizures, passing out etc. A scan a week later showed the MC to be complete, and after the day it happened so fast, I only bled lightly for 5 days.

28 (ish) days later, june 1st, my first period arrived (I have always been like clockwork, even after having ds, my period arrived in exactly 28 days, despite expressing milk round the clock!).

Anyway, I am getting a bit concerned now as there seems to be no let up to the bleeding. It's very heavy, and the toilet water is always bright red. I am changing thick pads every 2 hours. Not any pain, just ever so sight cramps on sat, I rarley get period pain.

Is this normal for a first period after a MC? The blood is freaking me out after what happened to me.

Hey hotcross,

My first period after MC was also really heavy; and I think that's a fairly common experience. However, not sure when "heavier than normal but to be expected" crosses over to "too heavy, get some help". Could you try giving the miscarriage association a call and getting some advice from them? Otherwise did you attend an EPU before and could you contact them?

Really sorry for what you're going through.

Ps. I'm not surprised its freaking you out. My first period did too and I had a fairly 'straightforward' mc. Some reassurance might calm things down so you can focus on looking after yourself. Lots of hugs your way.

Thanks- it seems to be easing off now, much more like a 'normal' period. I just didn't know what to expect. I am glad the first one is out of the way, I feel like I can move on a bit more now.
