HCG levels have gone up instead of down - anyone had this? What is happening?

After increasingly heavy bleeding since last Sunday, I had a scan at the epu on Tuesday, which confirmed my worst fears. They could see the sac, but it was empty Sad The consultant and nurses all agreed that my body seems to be doing it all by itself and were fine to let nature take its course.

However, had a second blood test yesterday (Thursday) to make sure that my HCG levels were going down -which they haven't, they have gone up. Now they want me to come in for another scan on Christmas Eve, to check what's happening.

Anyone else had this? What is happening? They weren't overly concerned, but quite insistent that I need another scan. Apparently, the sac can still grow, even though it's empty, which can result in the hormone levels going up Hmm. I've now had to cancel all our travel plans over Christmas (as if having a miscarriage wasn't bad enough...).

I'm sad, confused and very emotional. If the sac doesn't 'come out' on its own, what is likely to happen? Will I have to have a procedure/medical intervention to make it happen...?

It could be a molar or partial molar pregnancy? I had the latter, but only found out when I got the histology results 6 weeks after my ERPC.

If it doesn't happen naturally you'll be offered either medical management (taking pessaries to make your womb contract) or surgical (a small op under anaesthetic to suck out the contents of the womb). There's lots of info on option on the miscarriage association website. If there is any worry after the scan about what is going on then they will take tissue to be tested.
I'm really sorry you are going through this - bad enough at any time but horrid that it is spoiling your Christmas plans as well.
