Had a scan last week and there was no heartbeat. Booked in for D&C this Thursday. Am absolutely dreading it. Can anyone tell me what to expect? How bad will it be physically and how long will it be before I feel physically back to normal?

I'm so sorry, I had a scan yesterday with no heartbeat (my third MMC) so I know what an utter bastard it is.

My experience of D&C has been very good- I felt a bit groggy from the general for a couple of hours but was very relieved it was over.

I was slightly sore and uncomfortable for a couple of days after but was fine with paracetamol.

Physically I felt fine by day 3 and only had light spotting after this for about a week. It took 5 1/2 weeks for my period to come back, and the first three were heavier than normal, but not horrific.

TBH it took me longer emotionally than physically to get better, I found that the hard bit.

I hope you have good RL support, be kind to yourself.

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry to hear you've been through this too. You're right, it is an utter bastard!

My ERPC is now also this Thursday, Im going to be at Tommy's in London, will be thinking of you having yours too x

HumphreyCobbler · 11/09/2012 12:58

Magicrat, so sorry you are going through this. I found my recovery was very quick after my ERPC. I didn't even need pain relief.

Totobear · 11/09/2012 13:02

It's horrendous emotionally but not too bad physically. I had mine under general and very little spotting afterwards, nor was I really sore or anything. I got my period a month later.

Poor you, I wish you luck xxx

Thanks all. Captain Horatio, I'll be thinking of you too. Somehow seems a bit easier knowing I'm not the only one going through it.

So sorry for your loss magicrat, I had a D&C yesterday, it was over quickly and I did not feel much pain after, today I have very little bleeding. I had a natural miscarriage last year and ended up in hospital as I had lost so much blood and the bleeding was heavier for a few weeks after so I'm glad I opted for a D&C this time.

Take care x

I'm really sorry for your loss. Having just had the same at 11 weeks my heart goes out to you. It's good that the D&C was done quickly and has gone well. Allthe best for your recovery both physically and emotionally and for the future x

So sorry you are going through this, I had a d & c about 6 weeks ago, physically it was absolutely fine. I was dreading the general more than anything. Woke up in a surprisingly good mood didn't remember even going to sleep. Was only a little sore after. I have had a natural miscarriage too and if I am ever unfortunate to be in this situation again I would choose d & c without hesitation. Mine was at about same stage as yours too. I'm so sorry x

CaptainHoratioWragge · 13/09/2012 14:56

How are you?
I'm back from mine, it was OK
thinking of you

magicrat · 13/09/2012 19:04

Hey, I'm back too, it went ok. Glad you are ok too. Onwards and upwards eh?

Indeed, or 'onwards to glory' as my dad would say x
