Worried 11days post erpc

I had an erpc for a missed miscarriage 11 days ago. I felt alright physically for 2 days afterwards with very little bleeding, then started to get pain just in one area of uterus, more bleeding and clots. I went to the gp on thursday and got 2 types of antibiotic which I have taken ever since. The thing is the pain is still there and I'm still having blood and clots. There isn't loads of bleeding, just 2 pads a days worth and clots tend to drop out when I urinate but there just doesn't seem to be any end to it.

Has anyone else experienced this? How long do the antibiotics usually take to sort things out? I don't have a bad smell or fever, just the pain and clots. I'm worried there is some retained product or some kind of injury - I only rested at home for one day afterwards and walk a fair amount each day (in London no car) but I have done as little as possible otherwise.

I had a post ERPC infection back in 2007. I had a slight pain as you describe, didn't have anything smelly or unusual, but I was running a low grade fever, and had a headache. Do you have any of those symptoms at all? Most infections usually bring a fever with them.

Not to alarm you, but I needed to spend 3 nights in hospital on IV antibiotics - oral ones would not have shifted it Sad

Thanks for answering murder, sorry to hear you had to go into hospital, that sounds scary. I have been back to the early pregnancy unit today and been rescanned - they say there are still fragments remaining inside and I am now booked for second erpc tomorrow, this time under local anaesthetic. Disappointed and worried to have to have another procedure - this whole ordeal seems to be never ending! Hoping I will get somewhere tomorrow and it will soon be over.

I'm glad they rescanned you, but sorry you need to have a second ERPC. Hopefully it'll fix everything though - in some ways it might have been worse if they hadn't found anything as you'd have not known what was causing it I guess.

Hope it goes well tomorrow and you can finally get some closure. That was the worst thing for me with that loss, I knew it wasn't going to work out from early on but the whole thing dragged on for months what with confirmations, operations, infections and so on. It's physically and emotionally exhausting. Be gentle on yourself!

Thanks murderofprose, had the second erpc yesterday and it was a difficult day. In the morning they put a drug stick thing into the cervix to dilate it and that was really quite painful. Then after a 5 hour wait I had the procedure and I have to say it took all my courage to go ahead under local anaesthetic and get through it. My husband was there withme but he got very faint and was sick! The erpc took 25 minuted this time as the tissue had been there a long time and was tough and broken up :-(

On the bright side the surgeon was so thorough and really tried to get it all, checking on scan so I am hoping this will be it now. I have a checkup scan next week to confirm there is no more left....

Really sorry to hear about your experience and that it went on for that long. I hope things have been better since but good luck for the future either way!

Ugh, I can't imagine having it under a local - that must have been so hard. Very strong of your husband to be there with you too. That's long for an ERPC too. Much sympathy and I'm glad it's over for you now. I really hope that is the last of your complications!

I've had much better luck since with two children after that particular loss - I'd love to say they were drama-free pregnancies but I could never be that lucky!! But at the end of the day the children are here and healthy and that is the end goal for all of us.

Good luck for the future for you too :)
