Hi Cartoon. Thanks for updating this. How do you feel about the diagnosis? Is it a relief or stressful? When do you start treatment?

I also have pcos and it doesn't seem to have affected my ability to ovulate although my cycles are a bit erratic and I'm apparently insulin resistant. However my hormone levels were consistent with pcos when checked and I have irregular cycles as well as the cysts on my ovaries. I thought to get a pcos diagnosis (which is different to polycystic ovaries) you had to have all 3 symptoms. I think loads of people have cysts but a much smaller number have the syndrome.

I'm still undecided about whether to try again or go for tests although need to decide soon as think I'll ovulate this week!! Don't even know where id get tested a theres so much choice. I am hopeful one day and so pessimistic the next....finding it all very stressful to be honest. So good you have a diagnosis though that is something you can treat. Lots of luck with it all. Hope you get good news soon!!

cartoonface · 12/09/2012 07:07

After what uve said I'm wondering if I've misunderstood a bit about the pcos. It didn't show up on my blood tests. But on the scan he said my ovaries are defiantly polycystic. My last two cycles were a bit funny, probably the mc. But I've never had pcos symptoms so atm they're not going to treat it.
It's strange for ages I wanted them to findsomething so I had a reason. But I actually don't feel that relieved now.

OP posts:
teaandchocolate · 12/09/2012 16:57

I know what you mean - you want to find out whats causing the mc and fix it but at the same time you just want to be 'normal' & get pregnant & actually have a baby without stressing/worrying/taking medication like everyone else. I'm really nervous of having tests incase they actually find something.

I'm not an expert on pcos by any means. They usually just treat the symptoms of the syndrome so if you don't ovulate you'll get clomid or if insulin resistance is severe you get metformin. There does seem to be a link with pcos and mc but I can't really work it out to be honest and noone seems to know why or what to do about it. Either way if your consultant says its not an issue then it definitely won't be. I think the biggest worry with pcos is you won't be able to get pregnant in the 1st place.

cartoonface · 12/09/2012 18:36

Yes I think it is and I havent had a problem with falling pregnant so I thinks that's why he won't treat it.
It's scarey getting tests done and the wait for the results is horrible but if it means not having another mc its so worth it.

Hi Everyone,

I've read all of your posts and I hope things are going well for you. I have seen Dr Shehata and saw him yesterday for results...my natural killer cell count is high so he has prescribed the treatment of prednisolone and omeprazole. My problem is trying to work out when I will ovulate so I know when to start the treatment. Do any of you use an app to chart and if so which one would you recommend? Thank you xx

Tina84 · 21/03/2017 16:19

Hi all,

Quick question, is anyone on this thread past 16 weeks and had the final appointment with Mr Shehata. can I please check how is it different from the previous ones, does he just scan you, asks you about general wellbeing and tells you to come off all the drugs apart from multivitamins. Is there anything else?

Starshine1 · 21/03/2017 21:27

Hi all,
I hope some of you previously on here have had succes stories! We are seeing mr S in one week for tests- hoeing there is something he can do to help! Laurensemp have you started taking the steroids? How are you feeling on them? Am I right in thinking you need to take them from when you ovulate? I use clear blue to test when I am ovulating and have tracked temperature before which seemed to correspond with clear blue. Good luck!

Chlo22 · 22/03/2017 18:51

Hi,
I'm also very interested in this thread as have just had blood tests done privately to check for any problems and Dr Shehata's name comes up a lot when I've googled and looked at different articles. Thanks

pickledsausage · 26/03/2017 12:39

Hi, this is an old thread so hopefully these ladies have all had their babies by now 🙏🏻

I've just finished my second round of steroids and feel absolutely fine on them, the most common side effect is not sleeping but i haven't had that - you take them before breakfast so you have all day to burn it off. No positive test yet but I went for a check up and the steroids haven't affected my blood pressure etc so I now have 4 months worth.

Yes you take them from ovulation for 10 days 👍🏻

pickledsausage · 26/03/2017 12:40

Sorry - you take the stomach protector before breakfast, eat, then the steroids afterwards

Starshine1 · 30/03/2017 20:18

Thanks picklesausage (love the name!).
Chlo22- I had my appointment with dr s- very nice- but thought I would feel really positive after the first appt, instead feel deflated and wondering whether to just give up now. Go back in three weeks for the results and treatment plan.

Really hope all the ladies on this thread originally have had their babies as that gives hope!

pickledsausage · 02/04/2017 12:05

Starshine don't give up hope ❤️ You have taken the first positive step, once they figure out what the problem is then you'll have a plan. I'm not saying it's not long and dull as hell but there's defo hope xx

Starshine1 · 20/04/2017 20:35

Hi - just wondered how you were getting on pickledsausage and chlo22?

I had my follow up with mr shehata and now have steroids for when ovulating. Feeling much more positive and have my fingers crossed!

Hopeyoure both ok xxa

Chlo22 · 21/04/2017 02:28

Hey ladies,
I'm now on prednisolone, only 5mg but taking it for 2 months to see what happens. My tests all came back clear but consultant said to try the steroids as they help a lot of people so we'll see. Hope you're all doing ok x

pickledsausage · 21/04/2017 03:25

@starshine1 glad you're feeling more positive, its so hard sometimes! I got my bfp this week, eeek. Early days but am still on the pred, taking the cyclogest and am booked in Monday for intralipids. Then scans every 2 weeks. Would just like to fast forward to 12 weeks now! Keep telling myself that there's every reason for things to go right this time.

@chlo22 that's great you got the all clear! Although I guess leaves you with some questions still. Are you under NHS care too?

Starshine1 · 21/04/2017 08:09

Ohhh pickledsausage! Have everything crossed for you! Really hope this one works out and the treatments makes all the difference. So pleased to hear this for you! I think the programme of scans every 2 weeks is really good, as I know I would want that to know what's going on.

Good luck chlo22- sounds like we are going through similar things at the same time. Let's hope these steroids help! X

pickledsausage · 23/04/2017 07:46

Thank you @starshine1, I keep telling myself it has every reason to go right this time now the issues are being dealt with. it's going to be expensive and a journey to Epsom every 2 weeks but worth it! I think I'll only be happy once the 12 week one is ok as I had one at 7 weeks in a previous pregnancy and all was fine but by 12 it had stopped growing so I don't think the inbetween ones will give me too much confidence. Long old wait ahead, will have to keep busy!!

Hope you both get your BFPs very soon! We used pre seed for the first time this month, could be a coincidence but it seemed to work xx

Starshine1 · 23/04/2017 19:17

I bet it will be a long wait for you pickledsausage! Crazy as if you're the same as me, spend so long wanting to get pregnant, then when it happens, it's so hard to concentrate on anything else, even though you just really want to fast forward time because of all the times before. Sending lots of positive vibes to you.

Thanks for the tip re preseed.

Hope you're doing ok chlo22 xx

Chlo22 · 24/04/2017 23:01

Hey ladies,
I seem to have missed your replies somehow! I took the pred for 2 weeks then had period but was actually quite glad as was worried about getting back to normal but it's actually happened v quickly and I've gone back to my normal cycle. Will you test for ovulating then take? My consultant just told me to take midway through cycle so I'm a bit unclear? Also this might sound like a funny question but how does it actually help medically speaking? She recommended it so obviously I thought I'd give it a go but not actually sure how it works medically speaking. Hope you're all doing ok x

Chlo22 · 24/04/2017 23:03

Can I also ask how the intralipids help? We have actually booked and appointment at the lister in london to discuss treatment at the end of May but would like to discuss more natural methods first before discussing full blown ivf treatment. X

Starshine1 · 25/04/2017 07:23

Hey there,
Mr S says to take the prednisolone as soon as you ovulate, so yes test for ovulation - I have been using the clear blue- should be ovulating in 3 days, so have our fingers crossed for this month and will start the pred as soon as I ovulate. I don't think it helps with the actual pregnancy, but stops the body seeing the embryo as a foreign body and attacking it, so making it a better a more stable environment for the embryo- and hopefully successful! The steroids are weaned off at 12 weeks as the placenta then takes over the growth.

My nk cells were borderline so I didn't need intralipids- just steroids and progesterone if we fall pregnant 🤞

Hope that helps! X

pickledsausage · 25/04/2017 07:36

@starshine1 yes exactly! I am now obsessed!! Gah. Thanks for the vibes, received gratefully and sent right back to you 😘

Hi @chlo22 starshine puts the pred purpose much better than I did on the other thread!! I had my first intralipids yday, I'm not entirely sure what it's for to be 100% honest...but I only need 2 so am just going for it and hoping for the best.

Xx

Chlo22 · 25/04/2017 08:59

Thanks for replying and explaining. I wasn't borderline but I think the consultant thought to try it just in case in the short term which makes sense. She said I wouldn't need progesterone as that helps to keep pg in (so to speak) but as I had a mmc that obviously isn't an issue so she prescribes clexane once we so get pg. sounds like she's of a similar mindset to him which is good as I know some can be v narrow minded and some don't even believe these problems exist which is very strange!!
