Hello I'm new to this part.
I've just experienced my 3rd mc do hospital has advised my gp will now refer me for tests. I know there is loads of support threads on this that I will look at when I feel ready but I just wondered if someone could give me an idea of what to expect. How long we will roughly have to wait on nhs, what tests will they do first etc.
It really weird that we now have to try to not get pregnant while we are waiting after all the trying to get pregnant for the past year. Thank you

Firstly so sorry you are going through this Sad
We were referred to NHS after 3 m/cs it probably depends on the area you live in but it took 4 months for our referral to come through. We rang and checked if we were seeing consultant rather than registrar but that was our personal choice. I had an internal exam and then we both had bloods taken. We then had our results back and were told that it was just "bad luck" and we were just one of lifes statistics. I know it's just a job for them but it was hard to hear.
We had very mixed feelings about the results, relieved nothing serious was wrong but also gutted they couldn't "fix" us
Good luck littlemissimpatient

Thank you and sorry to hear about your results. I think that's what I'm worried about. What did they test for in your blood tests? My GP has done generic tests to check I'm fit & healthy but I'm guessing the hospital will want to test my hormone levels some how? How do they test if we are ovulating properly etc? Or is that not a concern if we are getting pregnant? Sorry for all the questions!

The internal and scan was looking for obvious problems. The bloods were fsh levels which gp may have already checked and genetic testing to ensure compatibility with partner. That was about it tbh Smile

Also forget to say the most important bit we then got pg a few months later (I took baby aspirin from bfp) and now have a very energetic ds who is 2.5 Grin

That's great news! My appt with consultant has come through in 2 wks time! Can't believe how quick. Very nervous now though! Do they do tests on that 1st visit?

So sorry to hear of your three losses, but great you will be seeing someone so quickly.

I've just had my second mc, but have an auto immune condition so my GP is happy to investigate now. Does feel better knowing we'll be looking at possible answers to 'why?' - though like you worry they'll find nothing almost more than I worry they'll find something that can be fixed.

My GP said there was no need to test my husband immediately, as genetic incompatibility was the least likely cause and as we were having no trouble getting pregnant they didn't need to look into sperm quality, etc. The vials and vials of blood they took from me was to test for blood clotting disorders and potential immune stuff. Suspect internal / scan stuff would be done by consultant, though feel the whole area's been scanned quite well in the diagnosis of the two mcs so think they'd have said if there were structural problems.

Would love to hear how your consultant visit goes - like you I don't really know what to expect.

Best of luck to you and, again, sorry you're having to go through this.

I had 3 MCs over the last 2 years - had a few tests, especially as I was over 40 when they were done - but not genetic tests. Basic tests were to see how fertile I still was (hormones), and my ovarian loading (good for my age) - all seemed good except I was a little low in progesterone.

So progesterone pessaries were prescribed for any positive pregnancy test. They didn't make any difference to MC no.3, though. :(

I also have a blood clotting condition (Factor V Leiden) so 100mg aspirin was suggested, just in case microclotting was an issue - again didn't make any difference to no. 3; so I was given a scrip for clexane to be started as soon as positive pg test came up.

However, mid-last year I was tested for Vit D levels because of a family history of bowel cancer and was found to be lower than I should be, so was mega-dosed by the doc to bring my levels up - and shortly after, got a positive pg test. Did progesterone pessaries and clexane straight away and luckily I am now 23w pg and have everything crossed!

I have seen research linking subfertility and miscarriage to low vit D levels - so while one anecdote does not data make, I'd like to offer it as another factor that you can remedy of it's indicated - please get your Vit D levels checked and if they're low, get some Vit D on prescription to bring your levels up. Can't promise it will work, but it's one less risk factor. :)

Thanks for your replies. Sorry to hear you are going through this too Sad
That's interesting about vit d.
The gp has tested for a lot with blood tests just not hormone I think as that needs to be done at certain times of month.
I'm not too concerned about genetics as we seem to get pregnant pretty easily luckily. My appts not till 27th but I'll update after.
