I went for a scan this morning after having light bleeding since Monday but no pain. There was no heartbeat. I thought I was 10 weeks but baby measured 9 weeks so its heart had stopped a week ago.
I opted to have the d&c immediatley and im booked in for this Friday morning. I have no idea what to expect though. I mean for the procedure and afterwards. They did explain it at the hospital but I was so upset I cant remember anything!

I'm really sorry to hear that, I have no idea about D&C's either but didn't want to leave you without a reply. Thinking of you

Hi bella sorry about your mc :(

I had a d&c a couple of years ago, so my memory is a bit hazy but from what I remember it was ok. There'll more than likely be a lot of waiting around til it's your turn so take a good book or something to keep you busy.
They will put some sort of tablet into near your cervix, to soften it (although if you've already started bleeding you might not need this) - it's a bit uncomfortable but not painful.
Once I was taken down and given the anaesthetic it felt like about 10 seconds until I was waking up again.
I bled quite a bit afterwards, for about 3 weeks I think, and it was pretty heavy to start with so make sure you're well stocked on super pads. They should give you a maternity pad to start with though. I'd also wear old knickers that you don't mind throwing away.
I don't remember it being particularly painful afterwards, they gave me pain killers but I don't think I really needed them after the first day.

Try and give yourself plenty of time to relax and recover afterwards, and don't rush back to work if you don't feel up to it - I found it helped to go back, to give me something else to think about, but my work are ace and I was told to just go home if it got too much.

Blimey - i've written an essay. I hope it's useful for you.
Take care of yourself .

Hi BBM I had an ERPC a couple of weeks ago and it was very straight forward. I was admitted at 7am. I had to be nil by mouth from midnight. On arrival I was given a pessary to soften the cervix (you may or my not need this depending on whether you've laboured before). I went down to theatre about 9am and was back on the ward by 10 and was discharged about an hour later.

I didn't have any pain afterwards. I had light bleeding which lasted about 8 days - this was far less than I expected. I was quite tired though. I had the procedure on a Thursday and was back to work the following Wed - physically o felt fine at that point though was still quite fragile emotionally.

So sorry that you're going through the same and wishing you the best.

Thank you all for your replies. I don't need to go for the d&c tomorrow now as I passed the baby naturally today. It all happened fairly quickly and wasnt too bad I suppose (considering).
Im feeling a lot better now its happened, as if i can start to try and move on. Obviously still devastated but i know ill get there eventually.
Thanks for the support.
