So, I fell pregnant after a taking Clomifene (I have polycystic Ovary Syndrome) tested 5th January an I was 1-2 weeks, a started bleeding after a confirmation scan and confirmed miscarriage on 17th Feb. As a self employed childminder I decided to let nature take its course: fast forward much much more bleeding and 2more scans later and not much progress Thursday I'm going in for a Manual vacuum aspiration. I know it's relatively new in my area but, has anyone ha it done recently? What can I expect? What will I be like immediately afterwards or the next day? I've spoken to the doctor and midwife but I want to arm myself with real life experiences.

Hi OP unfortunately I have no experience in this area so can't offer any advice but saw your thread in "unanswered threads" and couldn't leave it unanswered.

Just wanted to say I'm so so sorry for your loss.

Hopefully someone much more knowledgable than me will come along in the morning. If not give the thread a quick bump to get it back into active convo's.

I don't have experience with the MVA as when i had my first miscarriage I had the ERPC which is a similar procedure but they use a surgical implement rather than suction to remove the contents of the uterus. I would expect that the MVA would be more gentle.

The main thing will be recovering from the anasthetic. If you are having it done under general then you'll need a day or two of proper rest as you'll feel quite dopey. In additon you can expect a week or two of bleeding, perhaps heavy at first, and perhaps with some clots so you'll need a nice supply of pads (not allowed to use tampons at this point). You may have some abdominal cramping like period pain for the first couple of days so get the paracetamol in. Once two weeks are up you should be physically all recovered. During this time, if you have any severe pain, very heavy bleeding or large clots, you should have the hospital's number handy so you can ring someone 24/7. The emotional recovery can take somewhat longer though, so be kind to yourself during this time.

It will take perhaps up to 6 weeks to get your period back (for some people it takes longer but 5-6 weeks is fairly "normal") and your cycle might take a couple of months to get back into a regular pattern. You can try again as soon as you feel that you want to.

I'm very sorry for your loss and wish you a speedy recovery.
