Have you been successfull after 3+ MCs?

I recently had my 3rd MC and have reached the point of disspare. I need to know; is there hope? As the thought of not being able to have children is more that I can bare.

So if there are people who have managed to have their first child after 3+ MCs, I would love to hear your happy news.

Thanks

Yes, I had my ds after 3 miscarriages - no apparent reason for having them, but I did take low dose aspirin during my pregnancy with ds.

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 04/01/2012 18:03

I had 8 or 9, the last one was at 22 weeks due to an incompetant cervix. The earlier ones were all around 6-10 weeks.
DD is now 10.8 and kept in with a suture.
Chin up and don't lose hope.

hi there. so sorry for your loss. I've had 2 m/cs and have no kids (yet?!) so can't offer wisdom but don't they do tests and offer more support after 3 miscarriages? i've heard of aspirin or progesterone supplements can be prescribed if needed to help maintain a pregnancy?
i'm sure there is hope, i started a thread a week or two ago for advice/stories of hope and some people have shared happy stories on there as i have found these stories awesome inspiratin.

i know my mum and dad had issues for years and thought they couldn't have a baby then years later and after a bottle of wine i came! so then again maybe i do have a good example, me!! my friend at uni was also the same, her parents thought they couldn't as tried for years and years but they conceived on gin! ha, and she's perfect! it seems impossible but the more relaxed and distracted you can be might be best. thinking of you. xx

I had 3 miscarriages, 2 at around 12 weeks and 1 at 7 wks. Took me ages to conceive too. I now have a 10 month old and it is hard to remember all the heartache we went through. With this pregnancy I had lots of bleeding (a sub chorionic haematoma) so was very stressful, but it all ended well Smile

RosieAndCharlie · 08/01/2012 13:57

Sorry, slow to reply, but wanted to send you more positive vibes... I had three miscarriages before being diagnosed with APS. I now have two children.
Don't give up hope - make sure you're getting all the testing you are entitled to and good luck.

SeaweedNK · 08/01/2012 15:17

Yes, have been exactly where you are. I gave up trying, took on a tougher assignment and bought a 2 seater car to try and focus on other things. Was of with DD within a few weeks. DD is now 9 and I also have a DS who is 4. I bled heavily during both these successful pgs especially with DD. I was a wreck throughout and didn't believe I would actually have a live baby until I was in labour. I refused to have a cot or pram or clothing in the house until after the birth. The only thing I can think of that I did differently with DD and DS was to completely cut out any caffeine and alcohol (not that I drank much before).

So sorry for your losses.

Thank you everyone for your positive stories. This has really helped. I have a private appointment booked for Feb 8th aswell as persuing the NHS route. Just all takes time and I'm not known for my patience!

Yes another success story here

Mc @15 wks, ds1, mc, mc, mc, mc (all 5-6wks) ds2 partial molar mc, mc @7wks ds3 they are 9, 4 and 1 yrs old.

You will get there. On my case I have factor v Leiden and a partial septated uterus. I took aspirin, clexane injections daily and progesterone pessaries until 14 wks with ds3.

flapperghasted · 09/01/2012 23:00

I'm so sorry for your losses. It is heartbreaking and you can't imagine ever getting through it, but take heart...lots of people do.

Success here after lots of heartache! We had 3 definite mc's before dd was born, 1 after she was born and possibly one before the three definites (in my teenage years). Once we got through to the recurrent miscarriage clinic, they found nothing they could pinpoint as a problem, but I had jabs in my backside for the first 12 weeks. They later said this was proven to be a spurious exercise and there was no evidence that it did anything! The fact is, dd stayed put after the third mc. She's now 11 on Sunday and I'm looking forward to celebrating her birthday :)

Lozza70 · 15/01/2012 18:56

Sorry for your losses but the is hope. I had 3 mc, 10 weeks, 6 weeks and 9 weeks and then fell preg with DS who is now a very boisterous 3 year old. Investigations showed no problems but it was suggested I take half a low dose aspirin daily once I found out I was preg and I really believe that's why DS is here. Currently 14 weeks with no. 2 and on asprin again, so keep hangin on in there. Have the testing and hopefully things will work for you.

LAF77 · 18/01/2012 14:59

dunnitt I'm sorry to hear your story. It is truly hell that you are going through.

I had 3 MCs in 2010. I thought that there might never be a chance for me after my third loss.

I did tests at a specialist unit on the NHS nearly one year ago and it turns out that I develop a blood clotting problem when I am pregnant. All tests came back clear in a non-pregnant state. I'm on 150mg aspirin and I am currently 31 weeks pregnant now.

Where are you in the UK? There are several well known RMC clinics that you could get a referral to, depending on where you live.

This thread was very helpful as women who are in the same situation as you can discuss the testing and treatment that they are getting.

Thinking of you.

ILovePonyo · 18/01/2012 15:12

Hi op, just wanted to add my experience - I had 4 mcs over a year and a half of ttc. Got referred after the third one for help/investigation and had 4th mc, I didn't have a period in between and got pg with dd who is one next month Smile

I had weekly scans and hormone injections when pg with dd bcos of the previous mcs.

The advice I saw a lot was to "relax and it will happen" - most annoying advice ever Wink but it is true Grin I wasn't thinking about getting pg when it happened.

Good luck anyway, it's so hard especially when everyone else seems to having babies but it will happen...

mathanxiety · 18/01/2012 15:17

I had DD1, mc, mc, mc, DS, DD2, mc, DD3, DD4. The three consecutive mcs all happened at 6-8 weeks and the one between DD2 and DD3 happened at 13 weeks.
After the third consecutive mc, my doctor prescribed progesterone pessaries. No aspirin as I'm allergic. Tests that I had after the third mc, which was followed by a D&C, were inconclusive.

firstoneforus · 19/01/2012 01:36

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's devastating when you have a mc and often a very lonely experience. Yes, you can have children unless there has been a confirmed problem. Ask your GP to refer you to a recurrent mc clinic for tests, there may be a reason and then again you could be pregnant next time you post. Try to take it easy on yourself and o/h and be more wait and see.......I've been in your shoes and now have 4 boys! Take care xx

MmeBucket · 19/01/2012 02:09

My DM has. She had 3 mc and then had me and later had my sister. Then she had one more and then my other sister was a very big late in life whoops.

Gigondas · 19/01/2012 02:30

Yes - 2mc then loss due to abnormalities then dd, another mc and dd2 due today. I did have low dose aspirin and progesterone this time (no conclusive reason found In tests ) . All mc were about 6-7 weeks.

Lynli · 19/01/2012 21:39

I had 2 DDs and then 11 MCS some early some, some late. I then had my DS.

Good luck.

Dunnitt · 20/01/2012 15:15

Thanks again everyone. I had an appointment with a NHS consultant last Tuesday. He is putting me forward for some tests, when he eventually gets round to posting the forms. I wanted to be referred to St Marys RMC in Paddington but they won't until I've had these initial tests. I am more hopeful with the private clinic I am booked with, as know they can do more tests/treatments than the NHS.

Bye for now

LAF77 · 20/01/2012 17:46

dunnitt you will be in good hands at St Mary's. That is where I was treated. You can go there on the NHS if your consultant refers you there. Good luck!

Sweetspice · 26/01/2012 23:23

So sorry to hear about your losses. It must be devastating. I had one mc and that was completely heartbreaking! And surely you should be told the reason? Paul Armstrong at The Portland is a private consultant who specialises in recurrent miscarriages. He also does a treatment called LIT which is very successful in cases where it is appropriate. I think he is the only doctor in the UK who does that, not sure. Although I was not a candidate for that he has been incredibly helpful to me. I think he does free telephone consultations so perhaps it's worth checking that out? Do not lose hope!

sophsamjam · 29/01/2012 12:37

Sorry to hear of your loss. It is so hard both mentally and physically. Make sure you take care of yourself.
On a positive note I had an ectopic (resulting in removal of one of my tubes) and 3 miscarriages. All 4 losses unexplained. I now have 3 healthy children despite all of that.
Keep us posted as to how you get on with your tests.
