What do they test for after recurrent mc?

I've had 2 miscarriages and after a period of funk am beginning to get my optimism back. We're trying again, so fx all may be well next time, but I've got an appt with my gp on Wednesday and I want advice on what to ask him. I'm hoping that he may be prepared to authorise the most obvious tests before a third pregnancy/miscarriage if I'm informed and a bit pushy. My mc were both very early (6-7 weeks) and when taking the pregnancy tests I had very, very faint lines at first so wondering whether there might be some kind of hormone deficiency (top science from me there, I do realise!).

What tests have you had/what should I be asking about? Also, has anyone had any easy to follow, do-no-harm suggestions (from medical people, not wizards or anything) for things that can support a sticky bean? I'm thinking along the lines of vitamins etc. that I could get over the counter.

Just thought I'd add, I'm wondering the same.... Although, when I last saw the nurse at the EPAS unit, she insisted on continuing to take folic acid, even when conceiving, I'm not sure if it helps with other areas other than just to prevent cleff lip etc. But that what she seemed to indicate. Sorry I wasn't much help x

The nurse at the EPAS unit told me to try taking 75mg aspirin daily - helps prevent clotting, which can be a problem in early pregnancy and also helps make the womb lining a bit softer for easier implantation, apparently. You can get gastro-safe versions that stop you getting stomach ulcers from it and it's good for the heart/arteries too, so it will do no harm. At £3 for 56 I thought it was worth a go alongside the folic acid.

There is a wealth of information on the "Recurrent Buns" thread. You should go and have a read.

I am on a treatment programme to try to prevent recurrent miscarriages due to high NK Cells (immune system rejecting pregnancy). You may or may not have this problem but along side the steroids which I take specifically for this condition my consultant also recommends taking Folic Acid, 25mcg Vit D3, 75mg Asprin, Omega 3 & Pregnacare vitamins.

Thanks Kittens - that sounds do-able. I'm sorry you are having to take the steroids, but good luck with it all. I have had a brief look at the 'recurrent buns' thread, but you know what it's like when you are so behind on a thread and everyone knows each other - can be hard to pick the information out of the supportive and jokey stuff. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Thanks. Best of luck to you too.

I know what you mean about joining a thread once it's going. It took me a while to join that one too but nobody will think badly of you if you just read the stats and join in with any questions you have. Plenty of people join the thread as it grows and then move on to others that are more relevant to their changing situations.
