Very early miscarriage?

A few days ago I thought I was pregnant because I am never ever late coming on a period and as we have been TTC I just felt that I was (similar to when pregnant with DD). But I wasn't entirely sure as I was testing negative on home tests (I've known people to get negative results early on).

Yesterday (3 days late for my period) I had quite severe cramping and am having what is like a heavy period with clots and more period pain than normal. I'm not sure if I was possibly pregnant and now am having an early miscarriage. Has anyone experienced the same? I just want to know, and am wondering if I should go to the doctors to make sure everything is ok. I've read that many people do miscarry this early and don't even realise they are pregnant, so I'm not sure if the body just deals with it naturally.

I had got my hopes up as well, so have been feeling emotional today, but I'm not sure if it's justified.

Would appreciate any advice.

Also an extra question: if it is a suspected miscarriage should I not be using tampons or does it not matter?

Am not an expert but if it were happening to me, I'd make the same assumptions that you have. In which case its recommended that you use towels not tampons.
Might be worth popping to the nearest early pregnancy unit in a few days? Not as an emergency (unless you're in a lot of pain or bleeding loads?) but just to get a scan to see what's happening.

Sorry, read that back and I sound scary! I just find it helpful to find out what's happening. Also means if (heaven forbid) it ever happens again, you're 'in the system' so to speak.

Hi topsmart. Your reply has helped - I think I'll go to the GP tomorrow and get 'in the system' as you say. I assume if he thinks I need it he'll refer to EPU.
