Do I have to have a scan after miscarrying?

Second miscarriage in 6 months. This time at 10 weeks after having a private scan at 9 weeks which showed no heartbeat and only a sac developing.I have bled all weekend with large clots and now the worst seems over and the bleeding is lighter.NHS can only offer me a follow up scan at a hospital I don't know an hours drive away at 8.30 next week (we have 2 epu only 15 minutes drive from me but no appointments available) which is really impossible as I have 2 other young daughters and no childcare. Pretty sure I have had a complete miscarriage like last time. Is it vital I have a scan to confirm this?Spoke to an old school Dr who said I don't really need to. Not sure what to do and not getting any support or advice from health professionals.

I had one but they said I didn't need to (I had the appointment as a follow up after I'd started bleeding but had the MC in between).

If you feel unwell - feverish or have funny smelling discharge then get to the docs. You can also do pregnancy tests to check there is nothing left (takes a bit of time for the hormones to drop - at least a few days).

Sorry to hear about your MC - I hope you're ok.

What Iggly said - it's best if you can but I don't think it's essential. Do a pregnancy test after you've stopped bleeding to make sure you're back to normal, and get yourself to the GP - or A&E - immediately if there's any hint of an infection. Is there any way you can just turn up at the EPU saying "I think I'm having a miscarriage" and not mention the private scan?

I would think is not essential if you are feeling well. I certainly didn't bother with the last 2 MCs I had. Remember that a MC can make you very tired for quite a while though.

If you start to feel ill as Iggly says then get youself to the docs ASAP.

Take care of yourself.

Thank you very much everyone who answered. Have decided to take your advice and keep an eye on myself.Bleeding seems to have slowed alot quicker this time so think I'm O.K. Hadn't thought about doing a test so that is really useful advice.
