hi pebs it depends on how quickly you want to move along the testing process. Your local hospital consultant would have to refer you to St. Mary's hospital as you are outside the catchment area on the NHS. You could still be seen on the NHS if they agree to sign off on the budget.

I noticed that there is another thread that has been started to discuss seeing Lesley Regan/St. Mary's privately, so you can review the costs that are mentioned.

I think that many of us on the thread have been let down badly by GPs, consultants, and hospitals who don't specialise in recurrent miscarriage, and you could end up wasting months waiting for results that are inconclusive because the tests haven't been done properly or not done at all. When you have had losses, it can be really upsetting to add this to the things that you have to cope with.

However, you have been through such a traumatic time and maybe you don't want to rush into a lot of appointments right away. You need time to grieve. From my experience, the only thing that kept me sane was knowing the dates of my appointments and when someone would look at me and acknowledge that my miscarriages happened and I'd be looked at properly.

Having this thread helped me cope with my losses and understand what I could and should do next. There isn't a "how to" manual on coping with recurrent and late miscarriage

Thinking of you.

i am just begining the journey into test and recurrent miscarriage so am still hopeful my local hospital will be able to help me.

all the consultants, doctors and midwifes i met when i was in hospital last week seemed to be very confident that they would be able to help me achieve a good outcome in the future.

i feel that my local hospital do try to help women who have suffered miscarriage. after my first miscarriage i was able to ring epu whenever i wanted for a scan or a chat with one of the nurses. I had three early scans through this. I had started to relax a bit after my dating scan so didn't continue with the extra scans etc.

i will give them a chance but will bear in mind what you have said about feeling let down/not getting the right tests etc. if i feel they cannot help me i will ask for a referral. will the doctors at my hopsital know about the specialist clinic in london? - i presume they will.

i am going to read lesley regans book before i attend the appointments so should be informed about what to ask etc.

a midwife came to visit me at home last week and said i could have my own midwife next time i am pregnant who i can see as often as i need and can ring 24/7. this midwife would also deliver my baby (fingers crossed i get that far). from what i have read having this level of care can help with recurrent miscarriage - lesley regan believes in this 'tlc' theory.

at the moment i have an appointment for blood tests in the middle of august. i think this is to test for the sticky blood when the pregnancy hormones are out of my system. this is keeping me going as it feels like something is happening and i can relax without the pressure of being pregnant or trying to get pregnant.

when i had a scan at 6 weeks with my last pregnancy the midwife said i might have a heart shaped womb. when i went back at 8 weeks a different midwfire said my womb looked normal. i am going to try to get the consultant to check this out now i am not pregnant as this can be a cause of miscarriage. i think it can be fixed if they do find an abnormality.

i went for my initial consultation for counselling today. i am going to start the proper sessions in a couple of weeks. not really sure if it is for me but will give it a go - even if it's just to feel like i am doing something positive.

i am going on a cruise on friday with DH for a week so can't wait for the break. will be lovely to get away from it all!

iggagog · 13/07/2011 22:53

pepsbop glad you are getting some time away with your DH, you sound very organised about what you're going to do next regarding ttc (which is great) but I do also think it's a great idea to have time to heal a wee bit from what has happened. This thread has been brilliant for me, I'm sure it will help you too.

Hello...just thought I would pop on and say I am still aroung and lurking mainly until I have my appointment with Mr S and then I may have someting intersting to say! xxx

iggagog · 16/07/2011 06:03

Hi Batteryhen. Hope the waiting is going ok.
For anyone who takes co-enzyme thingumy - what dose are you on? The bottle I have bought is very vague - from 1 to 6 capsules are suggested. Any ideas? (Thank you)

suffolksteph · 16/07/2011 11:39

Hey ladies... Just thought I'd pop on with an update from me...

We went for an eight week scan at 8+3 and sadly the HB had stopped that day....

This is now our 5th MC and I'm done.. I cant go through this again when all our tests at St Marys have come back normal...

I was taking 150mg of Aspirin, 5mg of FA, Prenacare plus and Metformin and still it hasnt work when everything we have been told is normal..

I'm going in for an ERPC on Monday and I Think thats when it will really hit me as I still have all my sysmtoms and no bleeding...

I really dont know where to go from here as At Marys can offer me no more help or testing....

I think its time for me to stop..... It hurts too much

milkyways · 16/07/2011 15:28

Oh suffolk I am so so sorry :( I don't know what to say.....I hope you're being looked after at home by your family. I am so sorry. .

iggi I get my Co Enzyme Q10 from Boots, and it's 30mg per capsule. I've been taking one a day since February.

iggagog · 16/07/2011 21:06

SuffolkSteph I am so sorry. Really sorry. That is not bloody fair.
You don't have to make the decision about trying/stoping now though, give yourself time to deal with this news. Unless of course it feels easy to draw a definite line under the whole process.

batteryhen · 16/07/2011 22:22

steph How completely shit. I know this feeling so well, and would not wish it on anybody. Don't make any decisions yet, take time to get through this, day by day and with love and support. Everything else can wait, and you can re-assess in a few weeks / months. My thoughts are with you, having been through it so recently too. Five times is dreadful, and someting which no-one shoud ever go through. Look after yourself, and post anytime you want xxx

digitalgirl · 16/07/2011 22:26

Oh Suffolk I'm so so sorry to hear that Sad it really is horribly unfair.

iloveblue · 16/07/2011 23:14

LAF77 · 17/07/2011 17:18

steph I'm so sorry for your loss. It just isn't fair. Will they analyse the embryo for genetic abnormalities at your hospital?

St. Marys didn't find anything with me either. If I miscarry again, I will get an appt with Dr.S to test for NK cells.

My consultant at STM said that they would look at women who have had 5 MCs for the faulty decidualisation research with Jan Brosens. Do you get pg really easy? This area of research relates to women who are superfertile, able to get pg in less than 3 or 6 months.

I know how hopeless it feels when you lose your baby and the thought of putting yourself through possible agony again seems like a crazy thing to do. There is still hope for other areas of testing though.

Thinking of you tomorrow x

Hi all, haven't been on here for a while. Have been lurking since getting a BFP last week and absolutely terrified things are going wrong. Steph am so sorry to hear of another miscarriage for you, that really is heartbreaking.

I am speaking to a couple of you on other threads too and I hope you're all doing well.

My latest is, having been diagnosed with very high NK cells with Mr S (3.79 - can't find anyone who has had them this high anywhere online - he says they are in the top 5% he's seen) I got a BFP on Tues, first month of charting, and am theoretically 5.0 tomorrow with an appointment scheduled for him for 6.0. I have had the Prednisolone steroids dosage increased to 40mg and added progesterone to the Pred, aspirin, Omega 3, Vit D and thyroxine that I already take. I also had a first intralipids treatment on Thurs just gone.

I have to say I don't feel very positive at all but am just trying to take it day by day. I have no real pregnancy symptoms whatsoever and with my very high cells am not very optimistic. I am also now worried about a 'non-fussy uterus' reading those links and realising that I have always got pregnant quite quickly! First scan will be on the 25th so I guess that might be my first opportunity to find out if there is anything going on in there or not or if my silly body has started attacking it already.

how are you steph ?

suffolksteph · 21/07/2011 11:26

Congrats Freelance If you can do try and be positive... I know its hard but it does help to make time go quicker... as these first weeks always drag! Hope your well and things are going well so far... Not long for your scan on Monday, I have everything crossed for you..

LAF77 I'm doing okay.. one day at a time at the moment. The ERPC this time was completly diffrent, i was put on a ward in a room on my own and all the nurses couldnt be nicer... when i cam round in resus the nurse was stoking my head and saying how sorry she was... its was a really nice end to this journey. We do seem to get PG at the drop of a hat but St Marys never said anything to us about that, I also have long cycles but thats never been talked about either. I phoned them to tell them about the MC but they said that they couldnt offer me any more help.... only to go back and have another conversation.... to be honest We really are not looking to try again... so going to have a conversation with them at the moment would just be too much stress.

The staff at the hospital were lovely, and when I was really funny about how the "Product" was being treated when sent away they listen to me.. The last two that were sent away came back as failed to grow in the lab.. this Ive been told is quite rare and to happen twice even rarer... so i was quite scared about sending this one away too... but they looked into how it to treated for me, after I read in Lesley Regan's book about them being mishadled due to staff not knowing that they should not be sent in Formialin... which is what they normal do for specimeans... but I made sure that all over my notes were "DO NOT PUT IN FORMALIN" and they happly did it... Now I know if it comes back failed again I know I did every thing possiable...

So for us our journey is over... We are picking up a puppy on Friday and this is going to be our Baby from now on....

I know that there are loads of questions I have but I dont think I'll ever get any answers and with out a 100% anything will work (which is impossiable) I cant try again...

Coconutfeet · 21/07/2011 13:33

Hello. I hope you don't mind if I join. I was on one of your earlier threads but found it moved so fast I couldn't keep up.

I haven't read back very far but Freelancegirl I have seen your news. I can understand how nervous you must be feeling. Fingers very tightly crossed for you this time round.

I have had 4 mcs (two were confirmed as blighted ovums/ova) and have one ds. I've gone through the recurrent mc clinic at my local hospital and all tests have come back normal. I've just been told to take 75mg of aspirin. I've just made an appointment for Dr Shehata in September. Am a bit anxious about the costs but am hoping he'll be able to use some of the information I already have. It was very reassuring to be told that the have had women older than me (43) and that that wouldn't be a problem when I tentatively enquired (was turned down by St Mary's on grounds of age.) Can anyone who has seen Dr Shehata give me an idea of the total amount tests etc came to?

iggagog · 21/07/2011 14:07

Hi coconutfeet, sorry you still find yourself here :)
When I saw S I brought a list of all the tests the nhs did (you have to specifically ask for this, the lab results) which meant I only needed three tests done which was just shy of £500. The consultation itself was a further 250. Since then I've had a follow-up consultation (120 iirc) and you have to pay for steroids etc privately, UNLESS your gp could prescribe them for you. You only need to see him again when you're pg.
Hth!

Coconutfeet · 21/07/2011 14:20

Thanks iggagog, that's really useful. Yes, it's a shame we have to meet like this... Grin

I've got lab results from the chromosomal tests. Apart from that I've got a copy of a letter from my consultant which states the tests I've had and that they were all normal. When I called the hospital to ask for the specific results I was just told that was all it said on the computer. Do you think this will be enough or should I go back to the hospital and press for more information?

iggagog · 21/07/2011 21:16

Well, I contacted S's secretary about this and she said copies of actual results better (as he may interpret them differently) so a list of incomprehensible tests and numbers, rather than a letter saying "blah is not present" etc. I chose to speak to gp, and also phoned the secretary's number for the doc I saw at RMC, in order to request this. As someone on this thread told me, under data protection you are entitled to all results! As appt isn't till Sept you have plenty of time - it could save you money in the end.
SuffolkSteph am thinking of you (and tell us about the puppy!)

Coconutfeet · 22/07/2011 07:49

Thank you Iggagog. I will go back to them and ask again. No secretaries there unfortunately which is why it was difficult to get the information. I think a letter might be better.

SuffolkSteph - I've just read back and seen your news. I'm very sorry.
