Just wondering if anyone has/has had similar symptoms following an ERPC (mine was 9 days ago):

I have shooting pains in my pelvis (& occasionally in my bottom 'tmi') - like sharp dagger pains that only last a few seconds, but stop me in my tracks. I have experienced these in the past linked to my menstrual cycle, but it's too early for that I would think)
I also have a very swollen stomach - it's more swollen than before the op - I'm struggling to do my trousers/jeans up.

I went the the doctor for a check up yesterday, he did an internal and said all looks ok but I'm wondering if this is common?

Didn't want this to go unanswered. Sorry for your loss Sad. I had an erpc 13 days ago and over the past few days I've had the occasional twinge/cramping in my pelvis and also (tmi) feelings similar to IBS when on the loo. I tested negative on a very sensitive test this morning so I know there are no retained 'products' and these twinges, shooting pains are fairly normal.
However I haven't had a swollen stomach, but I know others who have experienced this after an erpc and this has sometimes been a sign of an infection. Can you ask for a scan at your local epu?
If not, could you take a pregnancy test in a few days and if it's still a very strong positive you should definitely demand a scan (and some antibiotics if you're still swollen) to check all's ok.

Thanks digitalgirl, I was hoping the doctor was going to refer me to the EPAU but instead he decided to do an internal examination himself. I was given some antibiotics to take straight after the ERPC, so I'm hoping no infection would have set in.

I have pg test but am a little hestitant to do it yet - do you know how long after the erpc you can expect to get negative?

If I don't get a negative soon on a test I will do as you suggest and push for a scan. It's hard when you want to try and move on but physical sysmptoms are a constant reminder.

My test was still very faintly positive on Monday (11 days post-erpc) then yesterday (13 days post) it was definitely negative. Perhaps wait till the weekend to take the test?

Hope you're feeling better today. It does get better.

That shooting pain in the back area (....) you describe - are you sure that's not some weird trapped wind thing? I have got that quite a lot in the past - a really sharp, very quick pain that stops you in your tracks for a few seconds? I would apologise for TMI but I think there's no such thing any more since my whole weekend experience :)

I had this really badly the other day when also passing the gestational sac so maybe it's related to bloating and wind etc as a result of weird things going on in the nether area. Especially with the swollen stomach.

I think I have now expelled everything naturally but my tummy is still bloated and I feel a bit frustrated with the 5 or so pounds I have put on having been 12 weeks pg and now I am not. Also I have got used to main-lining bread and am still doing so. I figure I will make more of an attempt to be healthy next week.

Thank you for your replies. I'm going away for the weekend tomorrow so I may leave the test until I return as it will be 2 weeks post op by then!

I managed to do another button up on my work trousers today - so hopefully the bloating is going down - my stomach continuously feels full though!

I've no idea what the shooting pains in the back area are they literally go right down my back bottom! Sometimes I can't sit down they are soo strong. I've had them in the past though and thought they were cyst related - but now I think not! Maybe it's wind related - bodies do strange things!

If it makes you feel better freelancegirl I put on 7lb up to the 12/13 week stage (which could explain the tummy - however I'd put on 7lb before the ERPC and I've only been swollen since that) the weight has mainly gone to my thighs - so next week I SHALL STOP TROUGHING. I hate carrying the extra few pounds - and I have no excuse now.

I feel a lot has gone on my thighs too! And I can't do up my small jeans. All fine when you are actually pregnant but now I am not it's a bugger trying to get it off. Mind you, I haven't started yet and it IS only yesterday I properly miscarried... Next week I am back to low carb!

I really think it's wind you know. There's lots said about extra wind and bloating during pregnancy so surely when we are suddenly not pregnant our bodies are going to struggle to adjust quickly. That sharp pain in the backside thing is definitely something I have got before in a trapped wind way. Nice...

Have a lovely weekend and let's support each other with losing those few pounds when we get back! We have to remember it's only a few pounds. And we also owe it to ourselves to be nice to ourselves and not beat ourselves up about it :)

Very true! I know I will sort it out through cutting back & exercise! Also if we are going ttc again I want to be in a good physical state from the start - so that's a good incentive!

Goodbye lovely warm fresh baked bread from the bakers (with butter)

Hi creamcracker. I had an ERPC 8 days ago now, and the pains you describe are so familiar to me. It feels like a stbbing right up my bum (really sorry way TMI) But you are not alone. Mine are so strong, they stop me in my tracks, can't sit down, but they pass within a few seconds. its awful. the only other time i have experienced these pains were in the late stages of pregnancy with my DD, so i have no idea why they've started now! I just hope they stop soon, and yours too.
Sorry for your loss. and i hope everything goes back to normal soon. xxx

creamcracker · 25/03/2011 16:48

Thanks angela, they sound exactly the same. I'm sorry your experiening the same thing, but it's reassuring to know i'm not alone.

Sorry for your loss also. Hopefully we all recover soon Xx
