Have name changed as no one knew I was pregnant apart from my DH. I miscarried very early on, about 5 weeks pregnant. It was my second miscarriage, but the pregnancy was also a bit surprise as it happended on the one and only time we took a chance and I am ancient. I'm feeling emotionally fine, but not physically. I was sick before my BFP and it's become worse since the miscarriage to the point that I began to throw up a week after the miscarriage Hmm.
It was a really heavy bleed so I don't think I'm still pregnant, but I feel so sick, tired and fed up. I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Have you talked to your GP or EPAU?
Have you got a -ve HPT?

It does take time for the pregnancy hormones to leave your system and so the symptoms can last for a while after you think it should always be over and done with - a -ve HPT would be a good sign that the MC was complete.

I didn't talk to my GP with my first 2 MCs as I had a MW friend keeping an eye on me and they were very straightforward (I got a BFP. I started bleeding. I stopped bleeding a number of days later. I got a -ve). With the 3rd I had spotting/light bleeding for a couple of weeks and had myself convinced it was an ectopic pregnancy and 3yo DD1 would find me on the floor in a pool of blood... So I wound up getting referred to the EPAU and having a scan (by which time the bleeding had happened in earnest and we were fairly sure it was all over - which it was).

If you don't get a -ve or your symptoms don't go away its possible that you've only had a partial MC. Or its possible you haven't MC'd at all and you're still pregnant.

IIRC with my early MC's, I was getting a -ve around the time I stopped bleeding (about 7 days). You sound like you're quite a bit past that, now, so if you're not feeling right it might well be worth running it past your GP and making sure everything is as you think it is.

You may not have lost all of the tissue, from what I understand a small amount remaining can cause the continued production of pregnancy hormones which could be making you sick. I would reccomend a trip to your GP.

Sorry for your loss, and hope you feel better.

that should say remaining tissue...

Thanks so much: I couldn't get in to see GP until next week. I have got a - test result but, as I said, the sickness is getting worse. It seems so unfair, and weird given that I was only about a week pregnant. My first m/c 3 years ago was absolutely straight forward. The other was offically a miscarriage, but to me to was a still birth as I lost my dd at 20 weeks. My gyne history is complex though I do have a gorgeous ds.

Forgot to say that my sense of smell has also become increasingly heightened and it is nowone week since m/c began and three days since bleeding stopped.

When I mc at 7.5w all my pregnancy symptoms reduced as the bleeding increased. But after about 10 days, when the bleeding had mostly stopped, all the symptoms came back again: nausea, cravings, weird sense of smell, etc. My body was screaming "you're pregnant!" at me. So I went back to the EPU and they did a blood test. They phoned me back within a couPle of hours to confirm that my hormone levels had dipped substantially and were approaching non-pregnant levels. I was definitely not pregnant. IIRC it took another week or so before my body felt normal again. Perhaps it was psychosomatic, and knowing for sure helped things settle down.

Could you go to an EPU?

Alternatively, if you have had a very heavy bleed, could you possibly be anaemic now? Anaemia can cause tiredness, nausea, and changes in sense of taste or smell.

WSPU · 10/03/2011 17:54

Thanks PC. I wondered about anaemia too but this is a continuation and augmentation of pregnancy symptoms and I know them well as I had hyperemesis with my two longest pregnancies. It's all a bit of a nightmare as I feel wrose by the day.

Silverangel: I wondered about retaining product too, but I was so newly pregnant and the bleed was so heavy that I doubt it. Also, symptoms have increased not decreased with bleeding and time passing. Seeing dr on Tuesday but hope this doesn't go on for much longer.

Hello. Sorry to barge in but we hope you don't mind if we move this thread from the Pregnancy topic to the Miscarriage/Pregnancy loss topic.

Trust you understand.
