Hi, sorry that this keeps happening to you. I have had 4 mc's all between weeks 5 and 7, but doctors seem to think there is nothing wrong with me.
Have you had any tests done after the third one? There can be a whole host of problems that can be causing the mc's - genetic, immune, infection. Have you had blood clotting tests?

I am sure there will be someone along with more detailed information.

irishhope · 23/02/2011 19:15

Yes have had all the tests no problems!!!!!!!seen consultant today he suggested trying asprin..but tests don't show any clotting issues so its a shot in the dark!! also seen a pharamacist who specializes in herbal remedies and he suggested a multi-vitamin called pro-conception and said he has seen success with it in recurrent miscarriage cases.so going to try anything.........

Hi, after my third mc I was given all those NHS tests for blood karyotyping for husband and me, and the thrombophilia tests - everything came back fine, and they told me it was "badluck". Anyway, I miscarried again in January....No one really suggested anything to me after my third mc, which was a bit shit.

This time, I have armed myself with a million vitamins, and my doctor has prescribed me 5mg folic acid. They did briefly mention something about aspirin for my next pregnancy, but I am meeting a pre pregnancy counselling consultant next week, so will ask her what I could try.
I actually want to be referred to Queen Mary's hospital, as they have the best RMC in the UK, and they do alot more thorough testing than other hospitals in the UK. I just need the consultant to refer me.

I havent heard about the pro conception vitamins you mentioned - Yes I understand what you mean by wanting to try anything. I didnt take the mc's that seriously until it happened the fourth time, because my doctors kept drumming into my head that it was "bad luck"..So this time, I too am willing to do and try anything.

irishhope · 24/02/2011 11:33

Hi, I read about queen mary's , I am in ireland and we don't have such facilities. wish we had.....but I believe this is not just bad luck, there is some reason and it could be something sooo simple but the wont do the tests......I am paying private and honestly feel I would be as well giving the money to my mum lol but you should insist on getting a referral...let me know how ur consultants meeting goes next week.........This is very difficult when everyone keeps telling u that u r fine and healthy and just try again..I don't have any children and so desperately want one....Hi the doctors want to try it..But we have to remain positive.I suppose.

Hi Irishhope, Sorry you are going through recurrent miscarriages.

The Sims clinic in Dublin do a wide range of tests, including the chicargo tests (but they do cost more)

Also you can go direct to St Marys in London, they often see women from Ireland, I did not know this until I went there myself. I was on holiday in Southen England when my 9th miscarriage started, so I rang St Mary's and got a private appointment for 3 days later, it cost me about 500 pounds with all the travel costs and extra blood tests etc. I was able to take my blood test results that I had had done previously and so did not have to redo all of the tests. St Mary's also do the TEG test, which is not done in Ireland. Having had the usual blood clotting tests come back normal, it was a surprise to have this one come back as showing that my levels were too high in pregnancy. This has altered management of pregnancies for me.

I have not had another pregnancy more following the results of the tests, to put the new treatments into action, so I can't offer a good news story yet. But I did feel that finally after seeing several doctors I was actually treated as an individual and given specific advice from St Mary's.

I hope you find a doctor to listen to you soon.

Hi Galwaygal,
thanks 4 this info.....Were u advised to go on asprin ....also I had the same prob getting pregnant after miscarriages and my doc put me on clomid 50mg i stayed on it 4 about 8mths to no avail.but dose was increased to 100mg in nov and i was pregnant in Jan..........maybe worth a try.

Irishope - yes I was advised to go on asprin, I was told by one doc after one scan showing failing pregnancy that in Ireland they don't offer much other than asprin unless you go for IVF. I was initially told to go on 75mg asprin following bfp, but after my TEG test at St Mary's hospital, I now have been told to go on 150mg from bfp. My local consultant says 75mg asprin and also heprin from 7dpo! The conflicting advice is frustrating. No-one can seem to give any answers.

I was offered clomid at my last visit, I declined it as I don't want to risk a multiple birth. I could go back and request it again, but I am using the time before any other pregnancy to mentally come to terms with so many losses in such a short space of time.

I was told that the early 5 or 6 weeks m/c's were almost always due to genetic issues (for me that is related to age). But I was given blood test with my dh to look as genetic issues (all normal for us). Have you been given this test?

irishhope · 27/02/2011 17:24

galwaygal- I have been told the same i am now 37 but early miscarriages started when i was 32 so i wont believe they r all genetic....had the tests but they r 2 normal. what are the TEG tests? i hav been told to go on asprin now and not 2 wait till bfp ?? God u must be going through hell...after 9 mc's but maybe they have u sorted now......my consultant said that multiple births on clomid are not as common as people think esp small doses of 50mg.my sister has had her 3rd baby on it!!!!!

The TEG test is a test to look at blood clotting, more sophisticated than the regular bloodclotting tests. I think that only St Mary's does it in relation to recurrent miscarriages. The do the blood test when pregnant and not pregnant to look for clotting issues. They told me that I have clotting issues only when pregnant, and hence to take the asprin from bfp.

The consultant at st mary's said that it is not advisable to take asprin unless you definitely have a clotting issue as the latest research says it could possibly increase risk of m/c in women who have no clotting issues. Anyway I am not sure that anyone really has the whole answer to recurrent miscarriages, I think it is a huge number of issues and sometimes it just comes down to the luck of the draw with the treatments that might work.

I am waiting til the publication of the results of the prednislone double-blind trial in june. This will help me make up my mind whether to request prednislone treatment or clomid, or whether I decide at that point to stop trying and start using contraception.

Have you started the asprin now? Are you taking the higher dose of clomid again? I hope you get a good result soon.

irishhope · 04/03/2011 22:46

yeah have started the asprin will start the higher clomid again next month. It was the only thing 2 work in 2yrs....Like u I dont know if I'm doing right or wrong.....I know how u feel I was going to stop too but then felt I have to try as it gives me some hope and something to concentrate on...but its hell! Going to try 4 a while see how it goes.
A friend of mine had the same problem about 8yrs ago and she was told she needed a progestrone injection as soon as she got bfp. She had it and had her baby.. after 10 miscarriages! She had 2 more chn each time getting the injection.....When she got pregnant the 4th time her doc was off and the stand-in would not give it 2 her, she m/c...but has had her fourth child 2yrs ago ( again had injection)!!!!!!!!I mentioned this 2 my consultant and he dismissed the progestrone injections saying medical evidence did not support it..However, I argued my point and he told me he would give it 2 me if I really want it! What are u supposed to think? I don't know!
I hope they have found ur problem... U really have been through hell! but its a personal decision and I hope u make the right one and get a result.keep in touch.
Baby dust 2 u..........

Hi Galwaygirl and Irishhope, my heart goes out to both of you. This is such a difficult subject to discuss with friends or family so you keep it to yourself. I think its hard for anyone to understand unless it happens to them. I am in Ireland myself but from the Uk originally. I am currently having my 5th mc, will have a d&c next week. Fortunately I have managed to have 2 dd's in amongst these, they are what is keeping me together at the moment. . My first baby had growth problems and I had pre-eclampsia both times so the Drs think they are probably all connected but my tests, apart from progesterone are all normal. I am going to ask them to send off the tissue this time for testing. Despite nothing showing up I had on the last successful pregnancy aspirin, heparin, progesterone and pregnyl to trigger ovulation as my cycles are long. This time ovulation wasn't triggered because my lining was thin so a week later I got pregnant myself, had all the same drugs and I mc'd. It's so hard to know is it luck, a different cause on different mc's or what. I am going ask my consultant to give me everything possible the next
time, so long as it isn't harmful to the baby. The NKK cells in the lining of the uterus sounds interesting, I am going to ask my consultant about taking steroids the next time around. I will try a couple more times, I can just about cope with this once or twice more but couldn't go beyond that. I wish you girls the best of luck.

Alibobster · 07/03/2011 11:04

Irishhope I'm so sorry this is happening to you again.

I have had 4 mc's and three of these never got passed 6 weeks. All my clotting and chromosome test came back clear,The 4th time I was given hcg injections as soon as I found out I was pregnant and these were to continue to 14 weeks. Unfortunately this pg also ended in m/c but I've since found out that this was due to a chromosome problem with the baby, this is the only time I've had an explaination as to why it happened. I also managed to get to 9 weeks in this pregnancy, further than the previous 3 so maybe the injections actually did help.

messylittlemonkey · 07/03/2011 13:08

I had two mcs both at around 5 weeks. I was at the point of going for blood tests at the right stage of my cycle, but fell pg again before I got chance.

On this occasion, I had bleeding again at around 4-5 weeks, which lasted about 24 hours then stopped. I remained pg and DD2 will be one in a couple of weeks time.

I did loads of research and the only thing I can say I did differently was to take low dose aspirin. I think I took it from day 1 of my cycle and then continued it right throughout the pg until about 35 weeks or so when you are advised to stop. The reason I decided to use it was that I thought I may have a clotting disorder as a result of a problem I'd had with DD1 and her placenta.

It's worth a try. Other thing to look into is B vitamins.

Good luck.

Hi everyone. Sorry to hear about your experiences. I am having my 3rd mc at the moment, had one at 5 weeks, one at 7 weeks and this one at 8 weeks, all since last August. No explanation yet but now I have had 3 am being referred for tests. Great to hear about other suggestions such as aspirin and pro conception vitamins - like you say, willing to try anything and like you MilkyWay keep being told it is just bad luck. Feel like I need to think i am doing something to improve my chances next time... Good luck everyone sending u best wishes

Hi all, I know these posts are quite old and I really hope your kids are already teenagers :))) but wanted to get some advise from you as having gone through all this. Today I met prof. Regan privately snd she suggested TEG testing. Can I ask how much does it cost? Also what treatment helped you have a successful pregnancy? Did immune testing and treatment help you and if so which specialist in London would you recommend? I am thinking to go to Lister for IVF treatment. Thank you 😊
