I had early miscarriage. We are waiting til nxt period to try again, but I want to be more prepared this time. I can't stop thinking about what is safe. Not so much food/drink etc, but more shampoos/cleansers etc. Anyone got any thoughts/experiences to share? The only sites I've found so far are USA based. Cheers.

Hi, I am sorry for your loss - it's a horrible thing for any woman to go through :(

In my experience, I don't believe that things such as shampoos and cleansers can cause miscarriage.
A majority of early miscarriages are caused by genetic abnormality in the baby, which prevent it from growing properly. This can be caused by random bad luck, and many women go on to have successful pregnancies afterwards.
I had a successful first pregnancy with no problems at all - I was using all my normal facewashes, shampoos, bleaching products throughout, and my daughter was born perfectly fine.
Since my daughter I have had 4 miscarriages in a row. After my second and third miscarriage I changed my diet, environmental factors like certain facewashes, left my job in an attempt to diminish stress from my life and completely cut out coffee and chocolate from my diet - None of this worked as I miscarried again.

For alot of women it could be that the early miscarriage was a cause of a random genetic abnormality or an infection, and you will have a successful next pregnancy, but about 1%, have consecutive miscarriages due to other underlying problems.

If you will be trying again, then I wouldn't worry about the shampoos and cleansers, but make sure you are taking folic acid and eating healthily, and stop your alcohol intake and cut down on smoking if you do.

I wanted to agree with milkyway - I don't think it's anything you have done or used.

I have 3 children aged 21, 19 & 4 and then had a mmc last month. I didn't do anything wrong, if fact I'm probably healthier and more aware of everything now than when I conceived them. It took me 6months to get by bfp last year, and with all the others I fell the first month (lucky I know).

Take your folic acid, look after yourself and maybe if you want to feel you're doing something look at alternative therapies. I see a kinesiologist, and recommend that. Reiki (I do Reiki) is also very good for general well being, or maybe acupuncture.

Thank you both for your messages, it has really helped - think I was beginning to obsess a little!

I am sorry for both of your losses - it is very upsetting.
Harassedinherpants - what does bfp mean? - sorry, I'm new to all the lingo!

Big Fat Pregnant (= positive pregnancy test)
Big Fat Nothing (= negative pregnancy test)

Have you thought about buying a book? There are several books that deal with miscarriage - I have read Lesley Regan's "Miscarriage, What Every Woman Needs To Know" its quite heavy going, but very informative. Reading about it might help you sort out the fact from the fiction with regards to causes of mc. I also REALLY recommend Toni Weschler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility - which doesn't deal with miscarriage at all, but teaches you all about how to recognise when you are fertile so you can maximise your chances of getting pregnant quicker. An excellent book.

best of luck,
