pg straight after mc with no period

mummytomax · 18/01/2011 13:05

I had a mc at almost 7 weeks pg mid December. This was my second pregnancy, DS is 2 yrs old. Although advised to wait until periods had returned I have become pg again only 2 weeks after the mc occurred and have had no period in between. My GP has said that this should not make any difference and the only reason to wait until after period is for dating purposes. I think I am now about 5 weeks but have to wait until 8 for a viability scan (if I make it to 8). The feelings are still so raw from the mc and although I'm over the moon to be pg again I'm a nervous wreck thinking that every twinge, pain, cramp etc is the start of it all going wrong. Has anyone else experience pregnancy so soon after mc and how were you able to get through those first few weeks without suffering anxiety and paranoia? When I was pg with DS I didn't have any cramps or pains whatsoever the first few weeks, but I had lots of cramping from conception until mc with 2nd preganancy. I've been experiencing these pains again so I feel like I'm just waiting for the inevitable.
I know people go through some terrible experiences and mine is nothing in comparison and I feel guilty for getting in such a state when I'm so lucky already.

Smile Many Congratulations notheroldie, lovely news! I wish you all the best.

hairyfairylights · 22/01/2011 08:15

Hi Mummytomax and Notherenoldie

Just checking in and wondering how you are both feeling and doing.

I am incredibly nervous, but the good news is I have missed day one of period and am still testing positive.

Taking the aspirin as prescribed by the consultant, and have first HCG bloods on Weds.

Scared as scared can be though and lots of knicker checking going on.

pigletmania · 22/01/2011 09:05

Keeping everything crossed for you hairy. I am mc at the moment, my 2nd one. If i get pg again i will be on constant knicker alert as I was with this one. The EPAU have offered through my GP to do an early scan if I fall pg again just to check things are going well.

maximum1206 · 22/01/2011 09:18

Hi Hairyfairy, it's all sounding positive so thats good - the knicker checking is familiar to me, I'm desparately hoping my period doesn't arrive but I'm having lots of cramps so I keep going to check!Keep us posted on your HCG levels - will they let you know the result on the same day? And is the aspirin thing just precautionary or have they tested you for a clotting problem? Just wondered cos have been considering taking an aspirin if I get pregnant again - all the info I've read on it seems to suggest that it does no harm and could help prevent a miscarriage so it seems a good idea.

Fingers crossed piglet for a nice straightforward pregnancy asap for us both.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. xx

hairyfairylights · 22/01/2011 10:12

So sorry to hear that piglet. It is definately re-assuring to know you will get an early scan next time.

Hi, Maxi. They have tested me for lupus, which I don't have, but nothing else, but I saw the consultant this week (to follow up after the ERPC in November) and when I announced my new pregnancy he said he felt it would be worth putting me on 75mg aspirin (but not heparin).

This month I had a day 21 progesterone test (not knowing I was preggers) and it came back at 48 which means my progesterone is good. It was measured as good during my last pregnancy (which ended in MMC), so unless on Weds it looks worrying, they will just keep me on aspirin, I think.

I don't think I'll get results same day, probably the day after, and I'm guessing they will need to be repeated forty eight hours, to see that they are progressing as they should.

pigletmania · 22/01/2011 10:18

Thanks hairy I really wish that this pg is successful for you and you have a lovely little baby at the end.

Will try again when bleeding has stopped.

DilysPrice · 22/01/2011 10:24

Best of luck to everyone. I conceived DD (8) very shortly after a MC, and have just been reading some reputable research on the NCT research roundup which shows that conception shortly after MC (less than 6 months) is strongly associated with all sorts of good outcomes for pg and birth. Paranoia is unfortunately inevitable, try to keep busy, and know that lots of good wishes go with you.

hairyfairylights · 22/01/2011 11:01

aw that's brought a tear to my eye piglet thank you. As I cuddled my four week old nephew yesterday (he's blooming gorgeous! - my sister's baby) it felt so lovely to have him asleep on my chest, and I hope I get that for myself with my own little one soon.

If you feel ok to try again, go for it. It was a helluva shock for me to get pregnant again so soon, and at first (even though we were trying, we didn't think for one minute it would be that quick) I wondered if it was too soon to cope with, but here I am and I am putting best foot forward and looking to the future.

Dilys (lovely Welsh name there!) Thank you so much for posting that, it gives us even more hope that we will one day get there!!! :) Lovely to read during a worrying time.

pigletmania · 22/01/2011 11:42

I think having my dd 3.11 has really got me through it though. If i concieve again will definitely be on constant knicker alert. Everyone seems to be pg at the moment, at dd nursery there are several mums with bulging tummies, and in the celeb world too, as well as those dreadful FB announcements.

pigletmania · 22/01/2011 11:44

Take each day at a time hairy, they say green tea is good when you are pg as well as folic acid of course. Hairy rest as much as poss, dont do any heavy lifting in the first 3 months or anything too strenuous.

pigletmania · 22/01/2011 11:44

Oh and my mum had me at 42 years after a few MC

mummytomax · 22/01/2011 13:45

Great news Hairyfairy, so things are looking good. I know what you mean re the knicker checking!

I had a couple of good days towards the end of the week where I started to believe I'm going to have a baby in September, but I've got up this morning and I'm feeling a lot of cramping going on again. It's almost like a stabbing pain in my groin area and I feel like my uterus is really heavy when I stand up (a bit like I'm about to come on) and my boobs don't seem to hurt quite so much. Aaaggghhh! Driving myself mad.

I think I should be coming up for the 6 week mark over the next few days and I only got a couple of days past that last time so the next week or so is going to be tough.

Thanks Dilys for your kind wishes and everyone else for your posts, sorry piglet to hear your news. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a happy outcome for you next time.

Crossing absolutely everything for you ladies. Have had 2MC and can really relate to the knicker checking thing!!! I am so lucky to have gone on to have healthy DC's post MC but will never forget the worry. Here's hoping all will be well

hairyfairylights · 22/01/2011 22:12

mummytomax I just want to give you a little bit of hope here. Cramps (stabbing pains?) can be the ligaments expanding to make room for the uterus to expand, and don't forget, other organs to move aobut a bit (I am getting these and did during my last pregnancy). and the heavy feeling could be the corpus luteum which is supporting the pregnancy until the placenta takes over.

Really hope that this is the case!

Good luck!!

mummytomax · 23/01/2011 10:27

Thanks hairyfairylights I hope you're right. I feel a lot better today, I think all the anxiety was getting to me yesterday. Sometimes I wonder if all these aches and pains are in my head! Anyway, I did another test this morning (first one for a week!) and it's still showing positive. I've given up with the clearblue digi ones as I was starting to get a bit obsessive. They're a bit gimmicky and doing one just encourages you to buy more and I've come to the conclusion they're not all that accurate at measuring the hcg.

How are you feeling?

Hi Ladies,
Well AF arrived last night :(. Was gutted and felt like crying but we had friends coming for dinner so I put a brave face on and actually had a lovely evening and got very tipsy on red wine!! Fingers crossed for next month! Mummytomax think you're right about the clearblue digi - they are bloody expensive and i'm not sure they're very accurate, glad you're feeling better today.

Hairyfairy good luck for Wednesday I shall be keeping everything crossed for good results.

Piglet hope you're feeling ok and that bleeding is settling.

dilys thanks for info - has given me hope!

xx

pigletmania · 23/01/2011 13:56

Thanks maximum hopfully next month. What is AF btw pardon my ignorance.

pigletmania · 23/01/2011 13:57

mummytomax · 23/01/2011 14:08

AF means "Aunt Flo" meaning period.

Sorry to hear January is not your month maximum1206 and good luck for Feb. Good to hear you still had a good evening, red wine always works a treat!

Oh right never heard of that one [girn]

iwasyoungonce · 23/01/2011 14:13

I also got pg straight after a MC with no period. It worked out well for me - DS is now 15m old. Good luck x

mummytomax · 24/01/2011 19:24

Thanks for sharing iwasyoungonce :)

How are you today hairyfairy?

I've felt ok the last couple of days, even starting to get a little excited (hope that's not jinxing it)

I was shopping earlier and saw some lovely white newborn clothes but I stopped myself from looking. I'm going to ring my surgery tomorrow and book in for my 1st midwife appointment. They say for between 8&10 weeks and it can be booked in advance. I reckon I'm 6 today but need to feel like the ball's rolling.

I hope today's been a bit better for you piglet and maximum

Hi,
Thanks piglet, am trying to keep positive but I can't help but think about the fact that it took 13 months to conceive again after my first miscarriage, not sure I can cope if it takes that long again :( FX it will be much quicker this time!Have been referred by GP to gynae to look into reasons for miscarriage, first appt 1.3.2011 so that's something to focus on. Hope the bleeding is tailing off for you now so you can start TTC again.

Good to hear more positive stories thanks iwasyoungonce and hobnobsaremyfave!

Am really pleased you are feeling well mummytomax and try and let yourself be excited - you have every right to be so try as hard as you can to not to let worry dampen that excitement. Hope you booked your mw appt today too.

Hope all's well with you hairy, good luck for tom
xx

mummytomax · 25/01/2011 17:43

I've booked my MW appt for 8th Feb, still seems like a long wait, but hopefully I'll be 8 weeks by then.

Let's hope you get some answers maximum when you go for your appt. In the meantime, anything can happen so don't give up.

Good luck for tomorrow Hairy, let us know how you get on.
