Hi all, I had a miscarriage on Friday whilst waiting for an erpc.

My first concern is should I just assume that everything went OK because I wasn't told otherwise?

I want to try again as soon as possible, how long have people waited, and how long did it take?

I was thinking if I (hopefully) did get pregnant again I would pay for early scans (been told none until 12 weeks on NHS), and if the worst happened again, I would like a private erpc. Has anyone had any experience of private? I think I was just unlucky in my NHS experience, but I couldn't bear the thought of going through that again.

Sorry for the very long post, it's everything I've been thinking about since Friday

Hi Liz,

So sorry about your loss Sad

I'm sure you're still going through it all in your head, so do give yourself some time, hope you are getting lots of support.

I imagine you're still bleeding now. Did you have a scan to check the miscarriage was complete? If not, that might be worth getting in case it wasn't.

You are often told after a miscarriage to wait until you've had one period before trying again - that's mostly for dating purposes for your next pregnancy, you can start trying again whenever you're ready (although you should wait until the bleeding has stopped before having sex to reduce the chances of infection). Lots of women do get pregnant again without having a period in between, but it is totally up to you and when you feel ready.

I haven't been private, but the EPU near to me (St Georges in Tooting, South London) will do early scans - you turn up at 8am and it's first come first served. And they accept the reason for an early scan being a previous miscarriage, they are very good about that. I'm sure other posters will know more about getting scans done privately, but totally understand you will want the reassurance next time early on.

I'm sure you'll be thinking a lot about it in the weeks to come, do come back online for support if you need to chat. There is a nice thread in "Conception" for women trying to conceive post miscarriage, they are really supportive as it is a rollercoaster.

Big hugs xxx

Thanks, I appreciate it. They did the erpc after the mc, so hoping they removed everything.

Waiting feels so difficult at the moment when it feels like something's missing. Thanks for tip on conception thread I'll take a look :)

Hi Liz. Sorry for your loss. I have had 4 ERPC's (3 MCs) and only 1 was NHS. I do find that going private for the ERPC is much much better in respect to the way you are treated by nurses (they are very kind and have TIME to stay and talk to you), you get a private room, the whole procedure is better in respect to the amount of time from starting to miscarry to actual ERPC. I had an incomplete miscarriage Friday night, NHS wanted to send me home and a private gynae who I contacted (my gynae) said no way and had me in theatre 4 hours later. No waiting, no wards, complete and utterly a better experience.

Sorry for your loss

here is the list of EPUs
I have also used the NHS for early scans like Goodluckbear

I have also had a private ERPC at London Bridge Hospital - hopefully you won't need one every again

Good luck

Thanks both of you. Banana87, sorry to hear you have needed erpc 4 times. Private is sounding all the more appealing. I hope that isn't defeatist just easing my mind just in case
