Pregnancy symptoms stopped - inevitable mc?

Hi
I have had 4 mcs all around 5/6 weeks. Now on my 5th pg I have reached 5 wks and 4 days but the few pg symptoms I had, stopped over night - slight fluttering feeling, sore breasts, aversion to chocolate, sensitive smell...all gone. Is it possible for pg symptoms to come and go or realistically does it sound like mc #5 is on its way?

Hi, I don't think it instantly means miscarriage. Some people have mentioned that they do lose symptoms but I don't think it is anything conclusive. With my successful pregnancy my symptoms varied day to day and at so early a gestation your body won't be putting out so many chemicals to make symptoms.
Sorry you are worried, why don't you go to your GP and see if they will monitor your HCG levels?

randomimposter · 18/10/2010 16:27

jasmine, so sorry you have had such a hard time.

FWIW I had no symptoms (apart from peeing a lot and feeling tired) with my DS, now 2.

With my first MMC I had LOTS of 1st trimester symptoms and they were still very strong at my scan at 13 weeks when they estimated the baby had died a week earlier.

With my 3rd MMC I woke up one morning at just over 10 weeks, convinced I was no longer pregnant; hard to explain, but just an overwhelming feeling. At the scan at 12 weeks, it was estimated baby had died at 10+1 weeks.

I suppose I'm trying to say symptoms mean everything and nothing. I have heard of lots of people who say they come and go and all turns out fine. But I won't patronise someone in your situation who has already experienced so much heartache.

Hope all turns out well for you.

Thanks Purplebuns - I have apt with GP on Thursday which seems like years away....why is it time stands still during pg? I swear someone is playing with the clocks! Anyway, trying not to dwell too much - what will be will be I guess...now, where's that chocolate...

So sorry to hear you are this worried - though inevitable I imagine.

I've no advice but I do have my fingers firmly crosed for you.

jasmine51 · 18/10/2010 17:52

Sending (((hugs))) X

StarflowerGirl · 18/10/2010 19:41

Hi Jasmine I don't really have any advice to add, I just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you and sending you lots of good luck vibes and huge hugs!

jasmine51 · 19/10/2010 08:50

Thankyou all, feeling quite alone today so your thoughts are really appreciated. Was quite excited this morning because a banana made me feel a bit queasy, but it was just wishful thinking really. Have managed to get an apt this afternoon for an HCG test....and am back on the chocolate bigtime!

Aww :( I am sorry your feeling like this, I hope you get a good result with GP.
Please keep posting, MN was such a help when I was having a hard time. And we do know what you are going through, although 4 times already is soo unfair.
I am still on the chocolate, I blame Tescos, £5 tins of chocolates? Bastards. They know I am vulnerable Wink

jasmine51 · 19/10/2010 15:55

He he purplebuns...thanks for the tip re the biscuits! FYI my GP and local hosp dont do HCG testing now so I'm a bit stuffed as far as monitoring goes. Same old story - go home, wait for bleeding and get on with your life, such undertsanding!

hi jasmine, i'm surprised that you've had all these pregnancy symptoms so early. just because they've faded definitely doesn't mean the pregnancy has failed! many people don't start getting strong pregnancy symptoms till seven, eight or even nine weeks. of course you know your own body, but please don't assume the worst. with my current pregnancy, (i'm now 27 weeks, after four previous first trimester miscarriages) my symptoms would disappear for a few days and this would really freak me out, but happily the pregnancy did progress!

jasmine51 · 20/10/2010 10:34

Thanks sotough. I woke up this morning feeling 'odd' and with faint fluttering again so am full of the hope that the symptoms are back....or was it the brussel sprouts I ate last night? Certainly feeling a wee bit crampy today but no spotting yet. I did another pg test yesterday which developed a line almost before I'd peed on it. I am seeing my own GP tomorrow with a list of queries and am going to see if I can be referred to the EPU. Bit nervous about that because last time, the scanning was done in the maternity unit and was an unbelievably insensitive process. On the bright side, I am now 1 day further on than I have ever been before!
Always hopeful

Hi just checking in,
if you are crampy it could still be due to implantation. The pregnancy test is a very good sign, as it show your hormone levels have increased. Also can you not self refer to the EPU with your history? You are taking all the steps you need to, so well done for that. Really good to see your optimism x

jasmine51 · 20/10/2010 13:35

Thanks Purplebuns. It seems in this area that you cant self refer to anywhere. For past mcs I have been forced to go through A&E to get any prompt attention. Crampy pains are worryingly on one side and extend down my leg but cant read too much into that as have 'slight wind issues' after last nights sprouts! Am monitoring though as I know the dangers of ectopic. Only 24 hrs til GP appointment...am writing my list of queries now. Its easy to be optimistic whilst there is still a glimmer.

Hi Jasmine51 - have you talked to your GP about methods of supporting your pregnancy using things like aspirin, heparin etc.

I'll be keeping my fingers (and other appendages) crossed for you as I've been in your situation and really understand what you were saying about time standing still.

jasmine51 · 21/10/2010 10:18

Hi all
Been to GP today feeling crampy but still no bleeding. She wasnt prepared to refer for scan or other tests - the old 'nature will take its course' line. She has suggested I get my consultant at St Marys to write a letter asking for an early care plan and then make an appointment with local midwife. In meantime keep taking the folic acid.
Annoyingly vague and I'm anticipating the midwife will say 'go away' as well. Sounds weird but I'm watching my dog carefully - he acted weirdly the last few times I had a mc...perhaps I should rent him out to the NHS! Anyway, he seems his usual fidgetty attention seeking self so far.
Will keep you updated

xx

Sometimes health Professionals are so rubbish! I would at least have thought you could get a scan! I guess the consultant would be a bit more proactive? If not would it be worth going private for a scan?

But still, you are still here and have no evidence that baby is not doing well, and I am so pleased for you. I think the Dog knows to Wink

Thanks for keeping us posted, it is a delight to hear your progress and I have everything crossed for you :)

jasmine51 · 22/10/2010 08:41

Hi
Just checking in with progress. I was about to start a 'just sod off' thread aimed at insensitive healthcare professionals when the phone rang. I had left a direct message for my community midwife and she rang back and was soo nice. She cant accept me until 10 weeks but had read my consultants report and was worried that I had been refused early care, so got me appointment at the EPU. My faith in human beings is restored.
this morning I am sending out love to anyone else with a similar mc history and who is currently living minute to minute.
xx
