Hi, I'm totally new to mumsnet and internetty type chat stuff so please bear with me!

I am going for a scan on weds to see if my pregnancy has progressed in the last week as i started bleeding last week at what I thought was 7 weeks but was told it was 5 week size and as they couldn't see a heart beat they wanted me to re scan in a week.

BUT I've already had 3 miscarriages (after 2 normal pregnancies in 2002 and 05) and I know they couldn't see a h/b because the pregnancy has already ended :(

I saw a consultant after my 3rd m/c and was told he thought it was a progesterone deficiency due to an Implanon contraceptive i had in for a year about 3 years ago. I didn't have any blood tests.

What I can't decide and what I'd love your opinion on is do i just grit my teeth and go for it again straight away or should I try and see the consultant again or go private which means waiting months for appointments and results of tests?

This has been going on for 2 and a half years now and I just want a little bro or sis for my boys!

Thank you for reading this :)

What I can't decide is

Hello frida75
Sorry to hear your news. Personally Id grit my teeth and go for it again whilst pursuing consultant/private route too, as it all takes so long and you know what may happen in the meantime. However I dont know anything about progesterone deficiency.
Only you know if youve got the strength to keep going.
Good luck what ever you decide

Hi Frida. Sorry to hear your news. I hope its not a mmc for you. I would see a GP and have some tests started, esp if it is a progesterone thing that they can prescribe suppositories for as soon as you become pg again. I think its worth exploring the recurrent investigation route to prevent any further pain.

hi, personally i'd throw everything you've got at the problem now. four miscarriages in a row is not just bad luck. something is wrong. i personally wouldn't try again until you've ruled out every possible treatable explanation. if they can't find anythnig wrong, fair enough, try again and hope that luck deals you a better hand; but if there is something treatable, why risk another miscarriage? after all, each miscarriage takes ages, when you factor in time TTC; time being pregnant; time for the MC to happen and time for your cycles to start again.
i had four MCs a row too, over a period of two years, and it wasn't until the fourth that i came to terms with spending a lot of time and money to try to get to the bottom of it. if you're in or near London, try to get yourself a referral to Lesley Regan's recurrent miscarriage unit at St Mary's Paddington. (NHS.) You could also explore immune issues with a private specialist. We did both of these things and had every investigation under the sun. we never got a conclusive diagnosis but for this pregnancy i've been injecting clexane (for possible blood clotting issues) and took steroids for the first three months for possible immune issues. I'm now 20 weeks pregnant and finally daring to feel optimistic that this one will actually result in a baby. i really feel for you - a fourth miscarriage is truly devastating. Ps - you don't say how old you are. If you're late 30s, early 40s, it could just be a numbers game as it could well be poor quality eggs that is the issue.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I hate the fact that so many of us have been through recurrent m/c but it is reassuring that I'm not on my own.
sotough, your message really struck a chord with me. I hadn't really thought of the time scale of getting pregnant and miscarrying again. Unfortunately I'm 250 miles from London so travel would be a massive issue.
I'm 34 so I guess I'm on the cusp of having lower fertility.
I'm seeing my GP after my D&C and I'll try and get a referal. I have two children already so I suspect it must be something relatively simple.

Thank you all again x
