Antithrombin III deficiency.... anyone with any experience?

I've just finished having tests for recurrent miscarriage. I am still waiting to hear back about the MTHFR results but one thing they did flag up in my results was an Antithrombin III issue. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks with a blood doctor but was wondering if anyone here had experience of this, what they were prescribed and whether it was successful.

Any info appreciated.

Hi, I can't help with your question but I wondered if you'd seen the immunology bit of FertilityFriends.co.uk ? There are some incredibly knowledgeable people on there who may be able to throw more light on this. Very best of luck.

Thank you BagofHolly. I did have a brief look but it doesn't seem to be one of the listed thrombophilias. I don't think it's one of the most common ones so I guess that's why I've been referred to a blood doctor.

Will have a more in depth look when I have more time near my computer as I'm working long days all week but able to pop in to MN via my phone, although it's not the easiest way of searching through new forums. I appreciate your response though.

If you put it in the search box in the top left of the index page, it'll throw up all the posts with it in.

Have you read the Alan Beer book, "Is my body baby-friendly?" It's an excellent read in relation to blood and immune related recurrent miscarriage.

Best of luck with the haematologist - I see Dr. Perry at Addenbrookes, he's got an interest in inherited thrombophilia and rpt mc. I'm on clexane and aspirin for the duration of the pregnancy, as I was last time. Hope you get there now your issues have been identifed! x x

I will have to register before I can do s search. I am working long days away from my computer until after the bank holiday so will have a proper look then. I have Leslie Reagan's book but that particular condition isn't covered in it.

Luckily it's not too long 'til my appointment though. It's hard not to be restless in the meantime though!

I may not be very popular for saying this, but Lesley Regan's approach is VERY conservative. She is an excellent researcher and scientist, and that's great for her. But the likes of Dr. Beer (and Dr. Taranissi and Drs Gorgy and Shehata) are in the business of making sure that women stay pregnant. Their approach is much more aggressive and goodness me they get results, sometimes in women who have 'failed' with Lesley Regan's approach.
I cannot urge you more strongly to buy the Beer book. It was the single biggest factor in changing our approach, which resulted in my son, and I'm now pregnant with twins.
Who is your appointment with? Are you under the care of anyone specialising in rpt mc?
You're right, you need to register with FF but it's well worth it once you've got the hang of it.
Very best of luck. x x

Thanks hon. I am under Rehab Salim in reproductive medicine at UCH. He seems quite thorough. But am waiting to see the blood lady and also waiting for my MMTHFR results.

I will look out for that book. Thanks for the tip. Where do those consultants practice?

Dr. Amin Gorgy has his own private clinic, the Fertility and Gynaecology Academy. I've only heard good things about him - he used to work at ARGC, in Wimpole Street, with Mohammed Taranissi, whose clinic ARGC is, and where I had all my treatment.

Dr. Hassan Shehata has an NHS post at Epsom and St. Helier, and a private practice too

UCH seem to know their onions if they're doing tests like MMTHFR - a few years ago this was all considered witchcraft!

When do you think your results will be in? Did you have the level 2 immune tests done as well - the one they send out to Chicago?

Havingkittens · 25/08/2010 06:09

The MTHFR tests seem to have been held up so I'm hoping they will show up this Friday as apparently they come in every Friday.

The don't test for NK Cells apparently as the test costs £500 and they say that the other factors are more likely. So, I don't think there are any other immune tests done there.
