Recurrent Miscarriage investigations - What do they do? what are the possible outcomes?

I am having my third MC. Have been referred to RMC for investigations but I have one child already so what could the possible reasons be and what can be done about them?

Hi Kalo12 - I am not very helpful but didn't want your post to go unanswered.

Firstly, I am really sorry to hear about your 3rd MC. Were all 3 in a row or did your child come in between? I've had 3 MCs as well but I had 2, then my son, then another one, so by most definitions it doesn't count as 'recurrent'. Although it still counts as a lot.

They can test you for several different things. THere's a thread on here about it or the Miscarriage Association has a really helpful leaflet (you can download it from their website) which will explain it all a lot better than I can.

Good luck.

Hello, I'm sorry you're going through a 3rd miscarriage. It's shit isn't it? I had my third one a couple of months ago too and have just been having all the tests over the last few weeks. I will get my results on Friday.

At my first appointment they did chromosome tests for my partner and I. I don't know if you will get that too or not. We also lost 2 pregnancies due to chromosome abnormalities (so, 5 losses in a row so far with no DCs as yet! Sad). Then they took 8 other vials of blood to test for various blood clotting/sticky blood disorders. I'm sort of hoping it's one of these that has caused the problems as it seems they can prescrive low dose asprin and heparin throughout pregnancy to give up to a 70% improved chance of a successful pregnancy from what I understand.

Then, during day 2-5 of my cycle they scanned my uterus and ovaries to check everything was the right shape/the right way up etc and took a further blood test for LH to check my egg reserves and also to check for any thyroid problems.

You should get results back 6 weeks after your first appointment. Some people are just sent them from what I've read on here. I am lucky to have a follow up appointment with the Reproductive Medicine Consultant at UCH who is very lovely.

That's as much as I know so far. I hope that has helped. I am 40 so, like you there is always the possibility that there are no other reasons than bad luck and late procreation and that it's just going to continue to be a lottery that I have to decide for myself how many times I can bear to loose in a row.

hi kalo

there is a few of us here going through or who have been through rmc testing, you can find us on the recurrent buns thread.

my tests were pretty much as havingkittens described. expect my consultant would not do the scan to check womb etc, as i had 2 dc already.

do you have a date for your tests?

hope you get some answers.

thanks for your replies ladies.

I have been reading sarah dobbyn's fertility diet and was adhering to alot of it but may go full crank from now on.

I just decided today though that to get rich you have to be physically around money so I am going to hang round with babies and bumps.

I'm wishing everyone all the best. There was a woan on here the other day who had just given birth after 15 mcs!
