Hi. I had a miscarriage on Xmas Eve. Not great but I thought that was the end of it and we couls starttrying again. About 4 weeks later I started bleeding very heavily due to a cervical infection and needed a blood transfusion. 6 months later I'm still not pregnant and am starting to wonder if there was damage done. After googling around I now see it's quite common and I'm devestated. I don't know what action to take beecause I don't think a GP will refer me for tests until we've been trying for another 6 months. And every month feels like a month wasted. Does anyone out there have a good story of getting pregnant after an infection?

Hi I had an infection after my waters broke at 17 weeks; it was the infection that actually killed the baby in the end. Anyway I too needed a blood transfusion and evil strong antibiotics (metronidazole?) for the womb infection. I was extremely worried that my tubes were blocked but then I became pregnant 6 weeks later.

Try and get your GP to refer for an HSG thingy just in case. If I were you I would be v insistent and say you are concerned your tubes are blocked and its having a psychological effect. Have you been having regular periods and everything else ok? Are you under 35? I believe they refer you more quickly over 35 anyway.

Hi. I'm so sorry about what you went through. i thought spending Xmas day hooked up to machines was bad enough.

I'm 36 and have a lovely 2 year old but desperately want to give her a sibling. I'm still ovulating regularly so took that as a good sign. I've already asked about the procedure where they put dye in your tubes but consultant was v reluctant to consider it this early on. Got to say that I found the medical staff very dismissive. I'm usually very relaxed about my health but think I need to be a bit pushier to get anywhere. Am very pleased that you became pregnant again.

Yes go back to GP and push it again. Just before and during the early part of my second pregnancy I found it helpful to emphasise the psychological effects and the effect on my family of the lack of care if I wanted them to do something, eg. scan for incompetent cervix, prophylactic antibiotics etc.

For some reason the more patronising ones seem to be able to justify doing something to reassure an anxious patient iykwim. Also (and I hate doing this) having DP there to repeat what I'd just said add his views worked.

Good luck and sorry this has happened to you. Why can't we just have had a normal miscarriage eh! (yes I know, they're shit too, it's just sometimes...)

That is so true about wanting a normal miscarriage. I was on the Miscarriage Assoc website just after I had it and it mentioned all these very rare things that could go worng but were so unlikely. Think I managed to check every box of the "unlikley to happen" list. I know I'd feel better if I could just find out what the situation is. Thanks for your advice.

Had a hideous infection post D&C (due to 'missed' miscarriage), and now have two dcs... I did have my tubes checked (nasty procedure but reassuring). Sending you lots of good luck vibes!!

Thanks BabyGiraffes. That's wonderful to hear.

Does seem to be a hideous gap in the care & information I got. I was sent home after miscarriage with no iron tablets (which should be standard I've since learnt given the amount I bled) and I should have been given strong antibiotics as I was supposed to be 11 weeks pregnant but scan showed just 5 weeks development so there was a v high risk of infection. Think they were just desperate to get rid of me as it was Xmas Eve and there were almost no staff.

Thanks for giving me a silver lining.
