Spotting after MC?

Hi,

I'm new at this- bear with me!

I sadly suffered a miscarriage in May. My body did it naturally, and I didn't need surgical intervention - although I am not sure which is worse.

Since then I have had a period - but also had spotting (brownish gunk) on and off.

Went to GP who examined me, and said I had a "cervical erosion", and everytime is got knocked it would bleed a little; he said it was perfectly normal and would go away on its own.

Has anyone else had this? And did it go away on its own? Also we are trying for a baby and am hoping this won't affect our chances...

Thought I woudl post on here as you all seem so wise and lovely, and that you would offer good advice.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry - I have no experience of this or advice. I just thought I'd bump for you and let you know that you are not alone with all your concerns.

Hi Mum2Chlo,

Sorry for your loss :-( I've had something a bit similar - had a miscarriage at 8 weeks in June, and bled for almost 5 weeks. After that had no bleeding, then some brownish gunk spotting for a couple of days, then nothing since. I haven't been to GP about it, but assuming it's just my body trying to get back to normal. Just waiting for a period now so that I can start trying again.....

Hi Mum2Chlo. Sorry about your loss. A cervical erosion can happen to any woman at any time regardless of whether or not they have had a miscarriage, but it does tend to affect more women who have previously been on the pill. Do you find that you have spotting after intercourse? This is also a sign of an erosion.

There is the possibility that the brown gunk is hormone related. Since my miscarriage I have spotting for a week before each period, which I have never had before, although this is due to a hormone imbalance, which is also why I can't conceive. My advice would be to keep an eye on it over the next few cycles. It can take some women relatively no time at all to get back to normal, but it can take others a long time for their bodies to settle down. If you are at all concerned further down the line, or are having trouble conceiving, then I would go back to your GP or ask to be referred for a second opinion. Here's hoping that won't be necessary!

Thanks everyone!

TheDuckSaysMoo - thanks for bumping!

PinkFondantFancy - sorry to hear about your loss, I hope your next period comes soon! Fingers crossed for you.

Brokenbits - thanks for sharing your experience, and sorry you are having problems. My brown spotting stopped now, for the moment at least, supposed to ovulate on Thurs, so will see when next period arrives and I will def keep an eye on the spotting like you suggest.

Thanks again to you all xxx
