Cannot believe I am asking this, but could this be the beginning of The End?

I am only 37yo so surely too young?

Had first child at 29yo, second at 31yo (not sure if that is even relevant) 3 m/cs.

I have always been very regular, could pretty much set my clock by my periods. Always exactly 28 days.

For the past couple of months they have been getting rather erratic.

Sept: 25 days
Oct: 30 days
Nov: 28 days
Dec: 29 days
Jan: 30 days
Feb: 27 days
Mar: 35 days (was beginning to panic there)

I am now on day 26 and have a bit of spotting so will probably start tomorrow.

Should I make an appointment to see my gynae or just wait and see what happens? There is not really anything he can do either way, is there?

I don't think, in the great scheme of things, that's especially erratic, Mme.

Mine are all over the shop now (am 50), and I went from November until March without one, and then had another one about 15 days later!

And to be honest, as you say, not a lot they can do really. They can do a blood test, I believe, to tell you if you're peri or menopausal - but probably only useful if you want to take HRT I would guess.

MmeLindt · 14/04/2010 20:35

Probably not, BIWI, but it is very odd for me. Never been early and was in a right flap last month when I was almost a week late.

I will ask the gynae next time I have a check up, later on this year.

You can get a blood test done if you want which shows if you are peri-menopausal. You have to have it done on the fifth day of your cycle and they measure hormone levels. I had it done after experiencing a similar story to you - irregular cycle, new physical symptoms I had not had before, etc. This was about three or four years ago now, and the hormone levels did not show that I was peri-menopausal. Since then, the irregular cycles continue and the physical symptoms become more and more extreme and debilitating each month, but one way or another my periods remain. I am 45 btw, so early 40s when the trouble began.

You could be in for the same long haul I'm afraid, though I suspect you would prefer that to facing the menopause at your age?

well after 30 years of completely irregular periods (anywhere from 28 to 42 days!) mine are now every 30 days regular as clockwork and I'm 46! Have put it down to the influence of 14 year old daughter & all her friends frequently in house. They now all ask dd1 to tell them when my period starts as they all start 3 days later.

DG
Not really bothered if it is the big M. We have 2 DC and are not planning any more.

I have heard that when several women live in a house together that their periods can synchronise. Experienced it myself when I was a live-in worker in a hotel.

I thought that was an old wives' tale until dd2 started her periods then the three of us all got in sync with each other. I've stopped now but I'm waiting for dd3 to start and see whether it happens again!

The time between having regular periods and completely stopping took about 3 years for me. I don't know if that's normal or not. Sometimes there was a 4 or 5 month gap or 2 or 3 weeks.

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/04/2010 22:10

Bum. I have just started spotting and it is only 16 days since my last period. I too am not bothered by the Big M. In fact, I wish it would hurry up and come.

MmeLindt · 14/04/2010 22:16

I would be quite happy for them to stop altogether so I would not be worried about getting pregnant again.

It is a bit inconvenient, not knowing when I am going to start. Have to take my mooncup with me when we go away just in case I start early.

Have you lost weight, or are you doing lots of exercise? I always found that a couple of lost kilos knocked my cycle for six. Thirty seven sounds ridiculously young to me.
