bleeding post meno

I've had a 6 day 'period' and have an appointment at the hosp to check it out. I've been post menopausal for a number of years and have been on Vagifem (on and off when i remember) which may be the cause of the bleeding. I had very tender boobs about a month ago, waterworks problems and felt hormonal then bang started to bleed. I'm worried, ok scared. The 'period' has come to an end but i'm uncomfortable and feel so odd like i expect it to start again anyday.
Has anyone else experienced bleeding when using Vagifem?

I am not on Vagifem or any sort of HRT but had bleeding almost 2 years after last period. Had to have it investigated as its counted as 'unexplained bleeding'. Had blood tests and a hysteroscopy under GA (he also did a smear at the same time). Everything came back normal and it has been assumed that it was a period. Seems the norm that you can still have a few randon eggs . My FSH was well over 50 4 years ago and I had a period a year for a couple of years, then nothing. This blood test inditacted that my FSH was only 20, so I had obviously ovulated, then a period. I am 48 and started the menopause in my early 40's, although I still managed 2 children at 41 & 43. Good luck with appointment. Hopefully it will be something similar to me.

I have had one day of bleeding 18 months after my last period- I am 55. My gynae did endometrial sampling- basically they use a small tube to suck out some of the contents of the uterus- it didn't hurt and wasn't any worse than a smear.

Like you, I had sore boobs and felt a bit PMS before the bleed.

I am on HRT. I also use vaginal cream ( line Vagifem but cream) now and then.

He can't explain why is happened- could be my hormones, or it could have been the fact that I was slightly late taking my progestogen tablets to bring on a 3-monthly bleed.

Most post meno bleeding- 90% is nothing to worry about but you should either have the biopsy/sampling done that I had, or a hysteroscopy. I was given the choice and my gynae suggested the sampling as it was less invasive and he did it in the surgery- takes less than 5 minutes. I had been seeing him for almost 2y ears so he knows my history amyway.

Come back and let us know and try to keep thinking that 9/10 are okay - thinking of you- know it is worrying

I had a scan today which showed a suspect area, so the doctor tried to take a biopsy but my womb shut down. I'm now booked in for a GA in 2 weeks time. I fear the worse, which sounds (and probably is) overdramatic but that is how i feel. The doctor did say it could be a polyp but it looked huge to me and she didnt sound that convincing.
That vague discomfort i have been feeling has solidified and i have backache too

sorry it didn't go well. How did she try to take the biopsy? what happened? Could she not get the tube in?

I know it's easy tosay but try not to wrry- might just be a fibroid or soemthing.

confirmednut · 06/04/2010 22:22

hi purple, the doctor was holding a very thin tube (like a turkey baster)but had problems getting into my womb. I was asked to cough a few times then take a few deep breaths, tbh i thought it worked but apparently she just couldnt get past a certain point and said my womb had closed down.
I'm feeling just a bit worn out & hormonal, i'm sure you're right- it will be fine, just seems to be dragging on so.

For anyone in a similar situation i can say that the actual procedure was not painful, just uncomfortable.

sorry- when I had it done my gynae said my uterus kept jumping away- he got the tube in okay, but then had to put one hand on my tummy to steady it all while he prodded with tube. He needed the nurse to help as he said he really needed 3 hands.

come back and let us know how you are?

Just read this old thread and am feeling much more positive! I am waiting for a referral after a 5-day heavy bleed (periods stopped 18 months ago) and saw the doctor yesterday who attempted an internal but it got too messy! She said I would only have to wait two weeks max for an appointment with a gyneacologist but it is going to seem like a lifetime and am obviously assuming the worst. Your experiences have comforted me a lot. Thanks ladies!
