No periods for months ... age 39

I know you are all going to say "go to the doc" so I probably will - but I have a horror of blood tests and I know that is what they would want.

Basically for the last 2 years I have had spectacular PMT, hot flushes and very irregular periods - anything from a 25 day to 39 day cycle. Now I haven't had a period since the first week in October, but I do think I might have ovulated yesterday - I occasionally get pain on ovulation.

Everything is totally up the spout! Is it possible I am having an early menopause? There is no history of it in my family at all, but I do seem to have the symptoms. THe big problem with this is I can't take hormones - any hormones aggravate a severely painful kidney condition I have, so there can be no HRT.

If I do have a period its going to be like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

See your dr!

I wouldn't dismiss HRT outright- there are many different sorts and some, such as gel, can be applied in tiny amounts- far lower than if you took pills- so you might be able to have something.
If you were having a prem.men you really WOULD need HRT to protect your bones.

I know, I know, I have to go.

I'm terrified to try HRT. I suffer from hormone induced kidney stones - in pregnancy I passed stones every day and for months/years afterwards, with a mirena I had to have it removed within a week as it triggered kidney stones. I'm going to need a specialist referral, aren't I?

Never, ever heard of hormones causing kidney stones, but you do! sounds awful.

where do you live? if you are SE, SW or LOndon I can recommend a great gynae. and he accepts self-referrals.

Its very rare!

I'm in Glasgow, so its a long way for an appointment!

Ok I am not at all medical but if you got kidney stones during pregnancy would that more likely be progesterone rather than oestrogen you would get in HRT?

As I say just relying on GCSE Biology so probably wrong!

I did what you said and mentioned it when I was at the doc 2 weeks ago anyway. Had blood test that day and my hormone levels are waaaay down - just got result today.

Being referred to gynae/urologist re: HRT, but I am incredibly loathe to try anything.

hi weegiemum

i am 37 years old, really interested in your problem, i had the merina coil fitted in sept and had it taken out this week, missed two periods prior to having it fitted, used to suffer bad pmt and thought this would help (ah ah ah ah) how wrong can you be, anyway when i mention menopause at docs they dismiss it because of my age but i suffer with lots of menopausal symptoms i too cannot have hrt it needed oh no!!!!!!
