Bleeding after the menopause

Petitioner · 06/01/2010 18:21

After my last child (age 38)I never returned to a normal cycle. I had about 4 periods in the next 5-6 yrs and then nothing. Hormone tests showed first that I was perimenopausal and eventually (about 12-18mths ago) that I was menopausal and I certainly had all the symptoms.

I had some bleeding before Christmas - not period like, but huge clots and odd bright red blood on wiping. About 4 weeks prior to this I'd had a PMS episode (very sore lumpy boobs) and my breasts had plumped up a wee bit. So I put it down to hormonal activity.

I have had further similar bleeding and an ultrasound of the womb lining shows it's abnormally thickened. I'm waiting for a biopsy of it now.
I'm not unduly worried because I really can't believe I can have cancer but I am slightly interested why this is happening.

I asked the GP if it's possible I'm having a reversal of my premature menopause and she said no but can anyone tell me if this happened to them?

Bump.

Thank you Squeezy

I've been told it's not definitely not due to a reversing menopause so question is answered now. It's abnormal and the biopsy will tell us why.

I think it all dpends on how long it has been since your last period and if you have definitive tests that showed menopause.
How old are you now?

Before the age of 50, you are supposed to continue using contraception for 2 years after what you think is your final period- so there is a chance you could have ovulated and had another period- or you may even have been pregnant and miscarried.

Uterine cancer is very rare before 50-55, so I think there must be some other explanation.

Come back and let us know.

Did you find out what was the problem?
