Watched MN before but never written

I had both my ovaries removed on Friday (pre-cancerous) and got out of bed this morning and my hormones fell out of my toes.. spent breakfast sobbing into the milk bottle while trying to sound chipper on the phone to DS and DH (4 and 2) at the grandparents.

Has anyone else out there been through this experience?? and any top tips for me and DH and kids to survive early and immediate menopause?

No advice or experience from me, but wanted to say that I'm so sorry for your 'loss' ~ because it is a loss, it's one that we will all go through at some point in our lives, though obviously not as drastically or as quickly as your 'menopause' is. It must feel so sudden and final for you.
Take comfort that you have your life. You are going to live and see your children grow up and you must surely take some sunshine from knowing that. These feelings will get easier and you can get help ~ be it HRT or homeopathic help.
I'm sure I'm not helping at all, but I am thinking of you.x

I'm so sorry to hear this, cpp5, you must feel terrible, to have to endure the sudden hormonal effect on top of the turmoil of the cancer fright and the operation.

Huge sympathies - be very kind to yourself and take it easy.

Can they not give you some help?

have to wait for the hormones to drop out .. which should have been tuesday (4/5 days after op) but they started falling earlier than i expected.. so i dont know how far they have to go...

and cant have HRT till they check out the state of the ovaries... which will take two weeks

Try to stay positive, come on here and keep occupied. There are some fab and funny threads if you want to put a smile on your face. Look up the Mumsnet classics: 'What not to do ~ the stupidity thread' for instance.

We are all here for you.

cpp5, i had breast cancer 3 years ago and as a result have medication which means that i went through a pretty fast menopause. it wasn't days though - more like a few months. i don't remember feeling particularly hormonal, but i guess that i was getting over chemo, so wasn't feeling particularly hot anyway.

in terms of surviving early menopause, i agree with the earlier poster that you need to take time to come to terms with your loss. it took me a while - particularly the fact that my choice to have more children had been taken away. and i try to keep as active as possible to try and hold back the "middle aged spread" (although i'm not doing very well at that). and 3 years down the line, i'm quite pragmatic - if i wasn't taking this medication, I might not be here, so I'll deal with the early menopause and feel lucky that i'm still around. it might be a bit early for you to feel like that, but i thought you might want to hear that in my experience, I did feel better with time.

I think that TheMadHouse has just been through a similar op, or is about to - see if you can find her around. She posts on the mutual support breast cancer thread from time to time.

Best wishes for your recovery and i hope that the news on your ovaries is the best it can be.
