Hi , I’ve been on HRT for 6 years which hasn’t been easy trying to find the correct dose which is still ongoing reducing my patch from 75 to cutting to 62.5 and 200 Utrogestan with the advice of my menopause Dr
Each time I’ve had slight spotting which has only lasted a couple of days Ive had to have pelvic scans

Last year I had spotting and my lining was 5.3 I spoke to a Gynaecologist after the scan and she said it was ok although it should be 4mm.

Then about 6 weeks ago odd spotting again I had a pelvic scan today and the lining is 5 but the lady said she’s sending a referral to Gynaecology.
I know that it’s going to be suggested that I have a hysteroscopy which I’m petrified about .

Has anyone been through this? Any advice please

@JinglingSpringbells I’ve seen a lot of people saying that they have had bad experiences. I found the local anaesthetic did the trick but I was nearly hitting the ceiling by that point. If the local anaesthetic at the outset was the default option, then I wouldn’t have had a bad experience.

Was the injection into the cervix very painful ?

I wasn’t aware of the injection being painful but I was fairly traumatised by that point. I was aware of it being considerably more comfortable afterwards. I’m not sure if the injection would have been uncomfortable if given first.

I suspect that a couple of paracetamol in advance, plus some breathing exercises and the injection would then have been ok.

I’m so sorry to hear this it’s such a horrible examination to go through. Im going to ask for the injection at the start
Im absolutely petrified

You can ask for a general anaesthetic. You need to ask before the appointment and they don't make it easy in my experience. But you have to keep asking, make your case for it, refuse to have it without.

If it’s any consolation I had hysteroscopy, biopsy and polyp removal two weeks ago and didn’t feel a thing.. that was without any anaesthetic. You never know, you might be ok.

I’ve read it’s easier for women that have had natural births 🤔 I had a c section

Hello , I had a hysterescopy and biopsy earlier this year and was terrified as I have also only given birth by c section . I was offered penthrox it’s similar gas and air and while the procedure was uncomfortable it wasn’t anywhere as bad as I had expected. A strange sensation when the water was being put in ( I believe they do this to expand the uterus ) and when the lining of the uterus was being suctioned gently to take the biopsy i just felt a bit crampy like moderate period pains . No cervical injection was given as they said this could be more uncomfortable than the procedure itself . Just to add I had abnormal cervical cells removed years ago and had the cervical injection for this and remember it feeling like a deep intense cramp . I just wanted to say it can vary so much from person to person but my experience wasn’t as bad as I had feared and thankfully everything came back normal , this was after ultrasound scan showed 18mm lining and I was having mid cycle spotting , I’m 44 and premenopausal, best of luck and hugs to you .
