ladies can you help me decide what to do, I’m been overthinking this all day.

After years of perimenopausal symptoms, I took the plunge had bloods last week, went for review today and put on 1 pump of oestrogen and two weeks of progesterone.

i am sleep deprived, itchy, hot and very irritable.

I am taking my two teenagers to Orlando on Thursday. Shall I start tonight or hold off until after my hols?

I’m desperate to feel better but scared of feeling worse before I feel better so don’t want to start just before my hols if that is likely.

did the majority of you feel better or have a dip first?

Just start, you will feel better!

SillyG · 14/10/2026 21:25

I would wait until you get home. One pump is a very low dose and your unlikely to feel any benefits.

Take it now. But I'd take two pumps at least. You won't notice much difference on one pump. My hot flushes and other symptoms didn't stop until I was on 100mcg patch which is the equivalent of 4 pumps.

I agree, one pump is an extremely low dose.

I’d start now. I had no side effects, just felt much better quickly

I started mine 2 weeks before I went to Florida and I was debating waiting until I got home but glad I didn’t because I felt better almost straight away!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 14/10/2026 22:19

I found 1 pump was enough to make a noticeable difference, and was sufficient for the first 6 months.

Thanks everyone, I did my first dose last night, just landed in America. Just wanted to check however, I am on day 20, just to clarify what a previous poster mentioned it doesn’t matter when my 14 days on / off progesterone is?

No negative symptoms. Massive improvement within a week. Micronised (or bio identical) progesterone was miraculous for me. Lifted my mood, stopped anxiety and suicidal ideation very quickly. Mood has been stable since, as long as I stay on it.

Never take oestrogen without the progesterone. The progesterone protects your womb from the oestrogen. Without enough progesterone taking oestrogen when you still have your womb increases the risk of womb cancer.

By the time they start HRT, a lot of women haven't a clue where they are in their cycle - which is why it's often prescribed by calendar date rather than cycle date. As long as you start the progesterone within the first month of starting the oesteogen it will be fine. The cancer risk is from long term unopposed oestrogen, not a couple of weeks (the way sequential usually works, you always have half a month or more without it every month).

Ignore your current cycle. It's totally irrelevant.

Just pick a day in two weeks time when you will start your progesterone tablets.

I took mine on the 21st of every month.

Apologies for getting this wrong
