Does Collagen actually work?

I’m 57 and just out of the menopause, more or less anyway. In the last few years and probably due to this, I’ve noticed some real ageing.

My skin has lost an awful lot of its elasticity, particularly around my neck and jaw area, and my eyes.

I know that powdered collagen isn’t a cure all but I’m being bombarded on social media by ads that extol its benefits to the skin and hair and was considering giving it a go, but I don’t want to waste a load of money on a lost cause!

Interested in the opinions of anyone who has taken powdered collagen and whether you think it’s worth it or not. I do know that you need to take it first three to four months before you do see any improvement - but internet ads are there to make you buy it so I’d really be grateful for any personal experiences. I’m not expecting miracles by the way, but if there are long term benefits to skin and hair, I might give it a go.

thanks in advance.

Nails & hair are made of keratin, not collagen.

I know, can’t deny that the collagen has made a huge difference to my nails though

Im of the opinion that its far better and more enjoyable to eat a healthy diet with good quality lean protein, tons of veg, fruit and decent cheese
£ for £ Collagen is a very expensive way to get what should be in your diet anyway.
Id rather eat steak and fish
I have extremely thick hair strong nails and decent skin
No sun
No booze
No fags/ vapes

You'd be better saving your money and having some fillers etc if you really want to see results. I appreciate it may not be your thing but nothing you eat is going to replace lost volume in your face.

Diet etc may give you a better skin tone but it won't 'cure' wrinkles or reverse sagging. I'm not 'advocating it' just saying what I've read!

Hope you don't mind me asking a follow-up question...

Anyone tried it to improve tendon/joint issues whilst combined with exercise? I read it can improve tendon thickness and elasticity if consumed 30-60 minutes before exercise significantly more than the benefits of doing the same exercises alone.

I'm a bit tentative after someone told me it negatively affected their mood and made them anxious (I am anxious enough, now I'm anxious about potentially feeling anxious).
