Perimenopause anxiety

I’ve been on hrt since last year:-
everol 75
testosterone
vaginal estrogen

No progesterone as I had a hysterectomy 8yrs ago (kept ovaries though).

The hrt has sorted all my perimenopause symptoms except anxiety. It’s like a low level anxiety that comes and goes, but it’s for no real reason if that makes sense? I’ve got nothing to be anxious about! I’m finding I’m more anxious when I’m driving too, again for no reason.

Has anyone else had this? If so how have you managed it?

A very long time ago I had PND and had fluoxetine and pregabalin, which worked but I hated the side effects of the pregabalin. I’m reluctant to take it again, but I don’t know if there are any alternatives.

It would be great to hear from anyone else who’s had this please?

Thanks for posting this @EatenTooMuchChocolateAgain. I’m experiencing the same, particularly at work and it’s miserable. My confidence is on the floor. I’m sorry you’re suffering but it does help to know that I’m not the only one.

I’m making note of the suggestions from other posters (although horrified by @LemonSnail‘s recommendation to give up caffeine - one of the few remaining joys in life 😭). I guess I need to find the courage to talk to the GP again.

It really worked for me, my moods were much more balanced and anxiety completely disappeared. I did it gradually to avoid any withdrawal symptoms.

May I ask how much tea/coffee you were drinking each day? (Clutching my latte with both hands)

Sorry, that was addressed to @LemonSnail 🙂

2 or 3 coffees and about 5 teas. For around 8 years I’ve had no coffee and only decaf or herbal tea. I’m 57 now.

I am menopausal after full hysterectomy 4 years ago and on maximum 4 pumps of oestrogen gel. I have started experiencing anxiety which has got so bad recently its affecting my life and really getting me down. Its mostly free-floating but also fixates on worrying about my teen son and something happening to him…car crash/alcohol poisoning etc or health anxiety….currently obsessing over all my moles and convincing myself i have malignant melanoma! Its driving me round the bend. I dont drink alcohol at all and minimal caffeine, exercise regularly. I am at point of thinking im going to have to contact my GP and take medication. So no easy answer but solidarity its very hard and i find that noone really understands as outwardly I probably look fine and functioning but im walking round with this constant knot in my stomach and waking up in the morning with a sense of doom and dread…its horrible.

Thanks @LemonSnail. I usually only have 1 coffee a day (no tea) although this has increased to 2 recently so I’m willing to forego the second if it will help! Well done on giving up entirely.

@jojojoeyjojo I know that feeling of dread so well, it’s horrible ❤️
