Honestly it’s so depressing, I’m still a size 10-12 but my entire body shape has changed. Just a slump from my boobs like an isosceles triangle into my stomach and then teeny legs at the bottom.
everything I wear I look so chunky from the side. No definition or differentiation between waist, boobs etc

I don’t want to look 25, but I’d like my clothes to fit, and to be able to bend down to tie my shoes without a bulge of gut in the way.

It’s not even my clothes fitting, I’m happy to buy new stuff in a bigger size but clothes shopping is just so depressing when everything makes me look huge. I run a lot so I have larger thighs, but the last few years I feel like I’m just getting bigger and bigger. And yet I pretty much weigh the same! What’s getting smaller?! 🤣

solidarity to us all. I’m on holiday and yes there are a lot of women who are bigger than me but also a lot who are smaller. I eat well, I exercise really consistently, it just feels so unfair!

HRT, mainly good diet and plenty of varied exercise including weight-bearing.

I applaud your descriptions!

But yes, I’m with you. My entire body fat / boobs appears to have melted into my middle. I watch what I eat and go to the gym. But working out only builds muscle on my butt, under the flab, so I also have two wobbly bowling balls behind me as well as a ‘swallowed a football’ tummy up front.

My BMI is healthy. But clothes don’t fit and I can’t bear to see my naked reflection in a mirror.

I watched my mum diet in midlife to stay petite, but she now has osteoporosis and has broken several bones. My choice seems to be diet = slim and frail, or healthy = a seal on stilts.

HRT is a licensed treatment for osteoporosis and also therefore a preventative measure too - as well as preventative for dementia, heart disease & cardiac events (better than statins), cancers etc etc

If you weight train and eat healthily it won’t happen/can reverse it. It’s not inevitable

I just have this weird doughy rubbery belly area now. I’ve had 3 huge pregnancies, 2 c sections, I’ve always had an apron belly and I have lots of stretch marks, but since being on HRT I feel like the whole area has just thickened out. I can’t breathe in and look slim anymore. My weight is pretty much the same, it’s just this big doughy area in my mid section. Probably exacerbated by gluten, sugar, alcohol, cortisol, etc etc

There you go, you’ve mentioned sugar and alcohol two of the main culprits

TofuTuesday · 17/08/2026 20:47

I’m vegan and don’t eat sweet things very often at all, I don’t drink much alcohol (can go months without but sometimes finish a bottle over a week)

It’s been the last few years that it’s happened, this slow solidification of my boobs and tummy into an isosceles triangles. I’ve started a mid week trip to the gym with some weights and cardio, as well as regular yoga.

I weight train and eat healthily @Disturbia81, I think the point a lot of us are making is that despite those things, we still have this belly all of a sudden we can’t seem to get rid of. It’s not inevitable no, but also for some of us no matter what we try it doesn’t go. It’s really disheartening and, for me, has changed my whole body shape, and makes me look
so much bigger overall.

i’m surprised this thread hasn’t gone immediately to weight loss injections, that’s usually the only advice given on these threads these days. Completely disregarding that lots and lots of people are nowhere near heavy enough to qualify and / or cannot afford or justify the cost.

I’m in my 40’s, I know how to eat a healthy diet, I exercise consistently and have done for years. But I’m also in the trenches with full time difficult demanding role, teenage / preteen/ young adult children who stay up later than I do, a house to maintain, a dog, and everything is so expensive. I think therein lies the answer to Amanda Holden’s secret.

I think it’s pretty inevitable. You can fight it by spending huge amounts of time and iron discipline but it’s just the aging human body.

Look at Cher and Madonna who made their figures and faces their full time jobs with constant targeted exercise and unlimited expenditure on surgeons too. They are still now rather solid around the middle as elderly women. Just focus on your health and amend your clothing style. I bet you still look great.
